      Website hosting options for students

Looking to create a portfolio-based website? There are many options such as Squarespace, Wordpress, etc. that charge a monthly fee.

Here are some free or inexpensive alternatives:

      1. Adobe Portfolio

        1. Included free with the school's Adobe CC student license.

        2. Provides many portfolio-based templates.

        3. After graduation, you lose access to your site unless you continue the Adobe CC subscription on your own.

      2. Adobe Behance

        1. Included free with the school's Adobe CC student license.

        2. After graduation, you lose access to your site unless you continue the Adobe CC subscription on your own.

      3. Cargo

        1. Free one year access using this code: Click this link to obtain the code (login required).

          1. You'll have to get a new code from us each year.

        2. How to apply the code to your account

          1. Create a free account on https://cargo.site.

          2. Create a site, which will be kept private.

          3. Publish your site, which will make it public.

            1. Go into Edit mode for your site.

            2. Click the globe icon on the right (Publish Settings).

            3. Click 'Make this site public'.

            4. On the payment page, click 'Use a promo code'. Enter the code you obtained above.

            5. You will now have a 1-year subscription.

            6. You can make the site private again if needed under the same Publish Settings menu.

        3. How to use an external custom domain with your Cargo site (purchased elsewhere such as with the registrar Namecheap)

          1. Create your site and publish it (go into Edit mode and click the globe icon Publish Settings on the right).

          2. Click 'Add a Domain' then 'Use an existing Domain'. Enter the domain name.

          3. Go to your registrar where you purchased the domain.

          4. Enter Cargo's two DNS server names: ns1.cargo.site, ns2.cargo.site.

          5. Wait 24-72 hours and the domain name should redirect to your Cargo site.

      4. Cardd.co

        1. Create up to ten 1-page websites for $19/yr.

        2. Provides many portfolio-based templates.
