Instructions to Create Assignments Using AI Design Assistant

The AI Design Assistant can help instructors formulate assignments for their courses. The following provides brief instructions to generate assignment outputs in Blackboard.

    Step 1

On your Course Content page hover on the grey line and click on the purple line to reveal the drop down menu. Then, select Create.

This image shows an orange arrow pointing at the purple line on the Course Content page. Also the Create item in the drop-down menu is highlighted.

    Step 2

The Create Item dialog box will appear with a list of items. Look for the Assessment sub-section and select Assignment (noted by orange arrow in the image below).

This image shows an orange arrow pointing toward the Assignment item on the Create Item dialog box.

    Step 3

Select the auto-generate assignment button (noted by the orange arrow). This buttons stands out as a black button on the right hand side of the New Assignment title.

This image shows an orange arrow pointing toward the Auto-Generate button on the New Assignment page.

    Step 4

The left side of the Auto-Generate Assignment page (see image below) presents you with the ability to:

    • Enter a description of what you would like the assignment to be

    • Use the select course items button to access and select past assignments

    • To select your Desired cognitive level: apply, analyze, evaluate or create. These indicate the level of instructions for the generated assignment outputs

    • Slide the bar from low to high to adjust the level of complexity for the generated assignment outputs

    • Change the language of the generated assignment outputs by clicking on the Advanced options

This image shows the layout of the Auto-Generate Assignment page. The left panel holds components for adding description, selecting course items, selecting the desired cognitive level and adjusting the complexity of the outputs. The black generate button is the last item on the panel. On the right of the page is an orange arrow pointing toward a green circle indicating that an assignment output was selected. The black Add button is located at the end of this side of the page.

Once you have made your custom modifications, you can select Generate.

    Step 5

The right side of the Auto-Generate Assignment page (see image above) provides the generated assignment instructions. Select the ONE output you need then click the Add button at the lower right corner of the page.

    Edit Settings

The result of clicking the Add button will lead to your assignment with its respective title (see image below). You can edit the generated assignment instructions at this stage by clicking on the pen icon . You can also edit the title of the assignment by hovering on the title and clicking on the pen icon.

This image shows an orange arrow pointing toward the pen icon for editing purposes. Another orange arrow points at the cog wheel at the Assignment Settings panel on the right.
