    2017: Undergraduates Recognized

    On May 3, 2017 the Maxwell School celebrated the achievements of undergraduate scholarship in the Social Sciences in the fifth annual Maxwell Celebration of Undergraduate Scholarship. Our celebration consisted of individual events hosted by each department as well as a multi-disciplinary poster session featuring research undertaken by undergraduate students during the current academic year.

    The following awards were presented during the celebration.

    MAX 123/132 Exemplary Student Paper Award, selected by MAX course faculty

    • MAX 123 – the winner is Jack Schlosser, for his paper titled Curing Corruption: America's Obligation to Political Equality.

    • MAX 132 – the winner is Zoe Preston, for her untitled paper. 

    Outstanding Student Research Paper, selected by a Maxwell faculty committee>

    • Awarded to Rachel Brown-Weinstock for her paper titled Facebook, Factories, and Frames: A Sociocultural Explanation of Community Attachment Resilience in a Deindustrialized City, completed as part of the Renee Crown Honors Program.  

    Research Paper Honorable Mention, selected by a Maxwell faculty committee

    • Awarded to Carolee Lantigua for her paper titled A Content Analysis of the 2014 Immigration Crisis Media Coverage: an Intergroup Threat Theory Approach on the Age of Immigrants, completed for her Political Science Distinction Thesis.

    Best Poster Award, selected by viewer voting during the poster session

    • Awarded to Jared Ferko for his work titled A Lost Generation: Youth Unemployment in Europe, completed for his International Relations Distinction Capstone Project.

    Research Poster Honorable Mention, selected by viewer voting during the poster session

    • Awarded to Valeria Salazar-Garza for her work titled Do Tariff Increases Bring Manufacturing Jobs Back to America? Evidence from Safeguard Measures and Antidumping Duties, completed for her Political Science Distinction Thesis. 

    Congratulations to all the students who participated and thank you to all the faculty and staff who supported the students.
