    2014: Undergraduates Recognized

    On April 30, 2014 the Maxwell School celebrated the achievements of undergraduate scholarship in the Social Sciences in the second annual Maxwell Celebration of Undergraduate Scholarship. Our celebration consisted of individual events hosted by each department as well as a multi-disciplinary poster session featuring research undertaken by undergraduate students during the current academic year.

     

    The following awards were presented during the celebration.

    MAX 123/132 Exemplary Student Paper Award, selected by MAX course faculty

    • MAX 123 – Fall 2013 semester, the winner of this award is Meagan Solano, who wrote an essay Mark Rupert’s course.

    • MAX 123 – Spring 2014 semester, the winner is Rui Zhao for his paper titled Inequality, Globalization, and Education for Kristi Andersen.

    • MAX 132 – Fall 2013 semester, the winner is Zane Warman whose essay was written for Diane Williamson's course.

    • MAX 132 – Spring 2014 semester, the winner is Angelo Sanakli for his essay for Seiki Tanaka's course.

    Outstanding Student Research Paper, selected by a Maxwell faculty committee

    • Awarded to Meghan Schneider for her paper entitled Addressing Modern Slavery in Haiti and the Dominican Republic: The Evolving Role of Nongovernmental Organizations.

    Research Paper Honorable Mention, selected by a Maxwell faculty committee

    • Awarded to Kepei Miao for her paper entitled December-May: Exploring a "New" Chinese Marriage Pattern.

    Best Poster Award, selected by viewer voting during the poster session

    • Awarded to Holly Yoo for her work entitled U.S. Driven Sanctions Against North Korean Arms Trade: Are They Effective?.

    Research Poster Honorable Mention, selected by viewer voting during the poster session

    • Awarded to Ethan Poskanzer for his work entitled The Birth of the Silicon Wade: The Effect of Post-Soviet Migration on Israeli Output Mix.

    Congratulations to all the students who participated and thank you to all the faculty and staff who supported the students.
