    2016: Undergraduates Recognized

    On May 4, 2016 the Maxwell School celebrated the achievements of undergraduate scholarship in the Social Sciences in the fourth annual Maxwell Celebration of Undergraduate Scholarship. Our celebration consisted of individual events hosted by each department as well as a multi-disciplinary poster session featuring research undertaken by undergraduate students during the current academic year.

    The following awards were presented during the celebration

    MAX 123/132 Exemplary Student Paper Award, selected by MAX course faculty

    • MAX 123 – the winner is Andrew Caplan, for his Fall 2015  paper titled The Compassionate Obligations of a Democratic Citizen.

    • MAX 132 – the winner is Dylan Brzezinski, for his Fall 2015 on Climate Change: The Complexities of Environmental Challenges.

    Outstanding Student Research Paper, selected by a Maxwell faculty committee

    • Awarded to Sara McNamara for her paper titled Sourcing the Sherds: An Analysis of the Coarse Earthenware Ceramics of the Trents Plantation in Barbados, completed as part of the Renee Crown Honors Program.  

    Research Paper Honorable Mention, selected by a Maxwell faculty committee

    • Awarded to David Kimelman for his paper titled Welcoming the Stranger: African Refugees and Israel's Asylum Regime, completed for his Political Science Distinction Thesis.

    Best Poster Award, selected by viewer voting during the poster session

    • Awarded to Yipin Zhang for his work titled Exit Ramps: Transportation Infrastructure and Internal Migration in India and China, completed for his International Relations capstone project.

    Research Poster Honorable Mention, selected by viewer voting during the poster session

    • Awarded to Virginia Giannini for her work titled Nuclear Narratives: The Language of Nuclear Weapons Free Zone in the Middle East, completed for her International Relations Distinction Project. 

    Congratulations to all the students who participated and thank you to all the faculty and staff who supported the students.
