Setting up a new (out-of-the-box) Windows 11 computer
Updated Aug 08

Setting up a new (out-of-the-box) Windows 11 computer

    1. The computer will boot up to the Windows 11 out-of-box experience (OOBE) as pictured below.

      1. If prompted for a network connection, connect to the “AirOrangeX” wi-fi network if you’re on campus. Or, another available wi-fi network if working remotely.

    1. After connecting, you should see the SU-branded sign-in screen. Provide your full SU e-mail address (<netid>@syr.edu) and password, and complete the two-factor login.

    1. The computer will go through several configuration steps which can take 20+ minutes depending on your network speed.

Important - when you arrive at the setup screen, please send an e-mail to Technology Services and let them know you’ve completed the OOBE setup for your computer. There are some administrative steps required to complete the computer’s configuration.

    1. After the setup completes, you should arrive at the Windows 11 desktop, logged in as your netid user. If you haven’t done so already, proceed with the software request process. If you have already completed the request process, run a "sync" using the Company Portal.
