SU Library and Local DC Library Resources

      SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY RESOURCES

Syracuse University has outstanding library resources, which can be accessed remotely from any location.  On behalf of Syracuse University Libraries, you have access to traditional and electronic books, online journals, statistical datasets and more. Moreover, you have access to a subject specialist librarian and a slate of additional library services, all geared toward assisting you in your academic and professional success. A significant percentage of this material can be accessed from any computer or mobile device, at any time of the day or night. Just have your Syracuse University NETID and password handy, and in most instances be sure to begin exploration of these materials via the SU Libraries website https://library.syr.edu .

      Getting Started on Research

If you are interested in getting started on research click here.

SU Libraries' Online Tutorials and Videos guide has helpful how-to videos and interactive tutorials, providing insight for using library resources and beginning your research journey.

Learn how to access SU Libraries resources, services, and support when you're away from campus and make the most of your online learning: Resources for Online and Distance Students.

Also available is Information on Citation Styles as well as Information on How to Avoid Plagiarism.

       Zotero

Zotero (pronounced "zoh-TAIR-oh") is an application that collects, manages, and cites research sources. It's easy to use, connects with your web browser to download sources, and best of all it's free.  Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies: Zotero research guide.

If you are interested in viewing a previously recorded workshop on Zotero click here.

Subject Specific Research Guides and Workshops

Also available are subject-specific research guides in International Relations, Political Science,

and Public Administration, as well as one on Basic Research Strategies for the Social Sciences.

If you would like to know what workshops about specific skills, tools, or resources we will be having online this semester, a list of our Spring 2025 can be found at Learn! at Syracuse University Libraries.

On an general note, we highly encourage students to browse the Complete List of Research Guides we have and Librarians by Subject

      LOCAL DC RESEARCH FACILITIES

DC University Libraries: You can gain access to the libraries at George Washington University and American University with your student ID to read books and other materials, but not take them out on loan.

Library of Congress: You can obtain a reader's ID card at the Library of Congress, and a reserve shelf for any materials available at the LC. It's one of the wonders of the modern world.

DC/VA/MD Libraries: There are local branches of the DC library for which you can obtain a borrower's card with DC, VA or MD address. Reciprocal agreements between states and the District grant residents in all areas access to libraries across the Metro region, but borrowing privileges may be limited in some locations.
