South Asia Center: Agehananda Bharati Memorial Scholarship

    Apr 09, 2021

DEADLINE: Thursday, April 30, 2021 at 11:59 pm EDT

    EXPLORE SOUTH ASIA!

The Moynihan Institute’s South Asia Center announces the Agehananda Bharati Memorial Scholarship competition for students interested in learning about and studying South Asia. The grant can be used for such activities as archival research, creating or purchasing data sets, internship expenses, language training, online courses, and travel that leads to a deeper understanding of South Asia.

We anticipate awarding 3-5 grants for 2021. Only activities concerning the countries of South Asia are eligible.  Grants will range from $1,000 to $2,000.   The awards are competitive.  Proposals will be judged on the basis of (i) the relevance of the proposed activity to learning about South Asia and (ii) the appropriateness and feasibility of the plan in relation to the student's background and qualifications.

The Bharati Scholarships are funded by a generous donation in honor of Professor Agehananda Bharati, Syracuse University professor of anthropology for 30 years, Ford Maxwell Professor of South Asian Studies, and a recipient of the Chancellor’s Citation for Exceptional Academic Achievement. Professor Bharati was a world-renowned expert in the cultural anthropology of South Asia, including the field of tantric studies.
