Print Account Management

Student Quotas

Students are provided a $40 credit at the beginning of each academic year in August (this $40 credit covers the next 12 months) for printing services in the ITS public computer labs.

How to Print

There are many ways to print on campus. Use the directions in the sections below for your preferred method.

Print from a Campus Computer Students can log into any library or ITS-managed printer and print a document. Printing Varies by Location Some academic departments, such as Maxwell and Newhouse, manage their own labs. To access departmental computer labs, contact the respective academic department or visit the school and college support page. Those who have provided details instructions regarding printing at their locations can be found below.

Email to Print If you are unsure where on campus you'd like to print, the option of emailing your document to be printed later is enabled. While email to print is enabled, it is limited black and white duplex printing only. Be aware that picking any alternative format will have inconsistent results. To print, simply email your document to print@syr.edu from your @syr.edu email address. Students can then log in at any library or ITS-managed printer to print their document. ITS Lab and Library Printers Only Email to print is only available at the library and ITS-managed printers. Guest accounts can utilize email to print using the instructions found on the Library support page. Once you have sent your email with the document you wish to be printed, log into printing.syr.edu. Your job will populate within 1 minute on the jobs pending release queue.

Wireless Printing Mobility Print Mobility Print is the preferred wireless printing method for personal laptops and mobile devices in public locations and labs at Syracuse University. For instructions, select the operating system you would like to print from in the Mobility Print configuration documentation. ITS Lab and Library Printers Only Not all printers on campus are available for Mobility Print including printers in office locations and in school or college managed labs. In these cases, you'll be required to manually configure your device to print at your desired location. Manual configuration is available for macOS and Windows computers. Faculty and staff may also contact their academic or administrative support personnel for additional options.

Printing From Personal Computers Via Print Server Some printers on campus may be managed by a department via print server, follow the steps below to connect a personal computer to one of these managed printers.

Printing from a personal Mac *These directions are for personally-owned Macintosh computers connected to the SU network via Ethernet or AirOrangeX. *You will need to have installed the correct driver of the corresponding printer before adding the printer in System Preferences. Open System Settings and select Printers and Scanners from the sidebar. Select "Add Printer." At the top of Add Printer control + click, right click, or two finger click to bring up the sub-menu and select Customize Toolbar. A new menu will pop up, click and drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar, when you see the icon in the tool bar click Done. Click on Advanced and select or enter the following information: Type: Windows printer via spoolss Device: Another device URL: enter smb://printers.ad.syr.edu/ followed by the printer name you are trying to add Name: The name should match the URL automatically as it is typed Location: Enter the building and room number where the printer is located e.g. CST 1-227 Driver: Select the appropriate driver from the Select software option, typing the printer model may find the result you are looking for quicker. If prompted click Configure for optional settings such as trays, duplex, memory, etc. Once you hit OK your printer should be installed You are now ready to print! Please Note When you print for the first time to an SU printer , you will be prompted to authenticate. In the name field enter AD\NetID and your NetID password. Faculty and staff print jobs are not hold/release, jobs will print immediately. Students printing to a managed printer via printserver will need to login to printing.syr.edu with their NetID and password to release their print jobs and be changed against their available Papercut funds.

These directions are for Students or Faculty/Staff who need to print from a personally owned Windows computer connected to the SU network via AirOrangeX. Step 1. Click the Start button and type run into the search box and press Enter. This box should show up: The run dialog can also be accessed by holding down the Windows Key on your keyboard and pressing the R key. Step 2. Type \\printers.ad.syr.edu\ into the run dialog box and click OK. This credential box should show up: Type in Username: AD\netid Password: Your netid Password Make sure you check Remember my credentials. Step 3. Right-click on the printer you wish to install and click on connect. Step 4. This credential box should show up: Username: netid Password: Your netid password Make sure you check Remember my password and Click Ok Now, you should be able to print to the installed printer. Please Note When you print for the first time to an SU printer , you will be prompted to authenticate. In the name field enter AD\NetID and your NetID password. Alumni, Retiree and Guest Print Accounts

Alumni, Retiree and Guests of the university are able to print at public workstations. Instructions for creating a guest print account can be found on the alumni and guest printing home.

Recent Graduate?

Alumni who have graduated in the last 18 months can still log into ITS lab locations. However, these alumni will still need to create a guest account if they wish to print and will not be able to print using their previous NetID and password login or from funds that existed on their account when they had active status on campus. All users in alumni status will need to print at public workstations.

Personal Wireless Printers

Personal wireless printers are not permitted on campus and will not work on University networks. We recommend a Bluetooth or USB cable to connect your printer to your computer instead. Student may request a USB printer cable at the ITS Service Center.
