    Music Opportunities at Syracuse University

    May 22, 2024

There are many ways to engage with music while on campus, either as an academic pursuit, or as a way to relieve stress and meet other students. Please consider taking advantage of these opportunities:

    Take Music Lessons

The Setnor School of Music offers classical and jazz/commercial style lessons for academic credit on many instruments (piano, organ, voice, guitar, percussion, strings, brass, woodwinds, harp).

Sign up for lessons early to ensure a spot.

Register with this online form by the add deadline (not MySlice)

Sing or Play in an Ensemble

All university students are welcome to sign up for Setnor School of Music performing ensembles, including a variety of choirs, orchestra, concert band, marching band, funk combo, guitar ensemble, and more. Some require an audition before classes begin, some do not.

    Add a Music Minor

The Setnor School of Music offers four 18-credit music minors: jazz studies minor, performance minor, private music study minor, and the music industry minor. Keep in mind that some music minors must be declared by the end of the freshman year.

Visit this link to learn more.

    Take a Music Class

Many music classes in Arts and Sciences and the Setnor School of Music are open to all university students, regardless of major. Look for courses with prefix HOM, MTC, MHL, and AMC.

    Attend a Concert

There are hundreds of opportunities to experience live music on campus every semester. Explore the Malmgren Concert Series of Hendricks Chapel, popular concerts such as Halloween at Hendricks or Holidays at Hendricks, and the many degree, ensemble, and guest artist concerts at the Setnor School of Music
