    International Relations Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program

    Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2024 International Relations Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program (URAP). Students selected as research assistants will work one-on-one with faculty in the Maxwell School on projects to support their research agendas.
    Research assistants commit to conducting three-five (3-5) hours of research a week for a minimum forty-five (45) hours total for the semester and will register for one (1) academic credit for the semester which appears on your university transcript as IRP 450 “Undergraduate Research Program.” Students selected for a URAP position will submit a final reflection paper on the URAP experience at the end of the semester.

    Eligibility requirements are:
    1) Senior standing (84 credits or more); students expected to graduate in the current academic year preferred
    2) Declared major in International Relations;
    3) Minimum 3.400 cumulative grade point average;
    4) On main campus for current semester;
    5) Completed academic coursework relevant to quantitative and/or qualitative social science
    research methods, such as MAX 201 "Statistics for the Social Sciences” or SOC 318 “Introduction
    to Research” is preferred.

    Project descriptions or the Fall semester are: 

    1. Scales of Heritage: The Politics of Historic Renovation in Contemporary Türkiye (Geography Dept.) : One (1) undergraduate research assistant will assist a faculty member in the Geography Departmentwith identifying a list of properties renovated (or repurposed) over the past decade in Türkiye and preparing an annotated bibliography that reviews current scholarship in and about Türkiye.

    2. Military Relics in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Anthropology Dept.) One (1) undergraduate research assistant will provide support to a faculty member in the Anthropology Department with a literature review and some archival work on afterlives of  former Yugoslavian military bases. 

    3. Civilian Involvement in Military Coups (IR Program): One (1) undergraduate research assistant will provide support to a faculty member in the IR Program in reviewing a book manuscript for errors and inconsistencies. Familiarity with the Arabic language is preferred.

    4. US and the World Workshop (IR Program and History Dept.): One (1) undergraduate research assistant will provide support to a faculty member in the History Department and IR Program with a project examining topics in U.S. foreign relations

    Please submit the completed application, which can be found here along with a current résumé by 5:00pm on Friday August 23 to be considered for a Fall 2024 research assistantship. Late applications cannot be considered as the assistantship hours begin the first week of classes.
