Instructions

  1. If this is the first e-mail account on your Android, open the application drawer and selectSettings > Account & Sync on the bottom touch Add Account
  2. Tap Exchange ActiveSync  (NOTE; some phones may refer to this as "Corporate")
  3. Tap in the Email Address box and enter your full e-mail address (for example, Netid@syr.edu).
  4. Tap in the Password box and enter your password.
  5. Tap Next on the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
  6. In the Domain/Username enter your full Email Address making sure you remove the "\" eg;netid@syr.edu
  7. In the Password box leave what is there.
  8. For corporate sync press the menu button to manual set-up to change server settings. change server to m.outlook.com
  9. Tap in the Exchange Server box and enter m.outlook.com if your SUMail account has not yet been upgraded to the latest Office 365 interface.  If your SUmail account has been upgraded, use outlook.office365.com for the incoming mail server.  See SUmail Upgrade for information on how to determine if your SUmail account has been upgraded.   (NOTE:  if your SUmail account has not yet been upgraded, and using m.outlook.com generates an error, use the "Server Name" value from the "IMAP Setting" section which you can obtain using the instructions in "Get Information using the Web Interface to configure Apple Mail" below).
  10. Leave "Use Secure Connection" checked
  11. Make sure "Accept All SSL Certificates" (SSL) is checked also.
  12. If the keyboard is present press "Done".
  13. Tap Next
  14. Choose how and what type of information you want to synchronize in the Account Options page.
  15. Tap Next
  16. Enter an account name like "SUmail" or "My E-mails".
  17. Enter an outgoing message display name.
  18. Tap "Done"..

 

Get information using the Web Interface to configure Apple Mail

  1. Open a browser and log into your SUmail account using the web interface at: https://sumail.syr.edu.
  2. Select "Options" in the top right of the main mail screen and then "See All Options..."
  3. If you are not already on the "Account" page, select it.
  4. Select "Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access..."

A screen like this one will appear.  Write down or screen shot the setting values listed under "IMAP setting" and "SMTP setting."  You will need these when you configure Apple Mail manually.

IMPORTANT

The values for your account may differ. Make note of the values for SMTP and IMAP for your specific account.

  1. Navigate to your apps.
  2. Open up the Accounts app.
    Accounts under settings
  3. Select Add account
    Add account
  4. Select Email
    Email under Accounts

    Other Email
    Microsoft Exchange Active Sync
  5. Type in your email and password, be sure to uncheck 'Automatically configure account'

  6. You will be brought to this page. Insert your sumail into email address and domain, password remains to be your sumail password and exchange server should be m.outlook.com or pod51000.outlook.com. Then click next,

  7. If the following does not work, then manually set it up by going to the original screen that indicates POP, IMAP or Active Sync. Then click IMAP.
    • Change the server type to 'IMAP mail server'
    • Server: use the values you noted from "IMAP Setting" in the "First Steps" section above (may vary from picture below).
    • Username: NetID@syr.edu
    • Password: your password

  8. Hit Ok, then select 'Outgoing Server'
    • Outgoing Server: uuse the values you noted from "SMTP Setting" in the "First Steps" section above (may vary from picture below).
    • Username: NetID@syr.edu
    • Password: your password

  9. Hit next, next then activate. Your mail account should now be set up.
