Clementine Class Search

Clementine: Class Search

Clementine: Class Search is Syracuse University's AI-powered class search tool — built to help students find the right classes faster, in natural language.

Instead of navigating complex catalogs or filtering through dropdowns, you just ask. Clementine understands natural language and searches across classes, descriptions, requirements, and more to surface what you're actually looking for.

What Can Clementine Do?

  • Search classes by topic, interest, or need — Ask things like "show me writing-intensive classes in the humanities" or "what upper-division IST classes are available this fall?"

  • Find classes that meet specific requirements — Filter by credits, career level (undergraduate/graduate), academic term, or subject area

  • Describe a class in plain language — Get summaries and details without digging through the course catalog

  • Help you plan ahead — Explore options before your advising appointment or registration opens

Who Is Clementine For?

Clementine is available to all Syracuse University students and is especially useful during:

  • Pre-registration planning — Explore your options before seats fill up

  • Advising prep — Come to appointments with a shortlist already in hand

  • Registration season — Quickly find classes that fit your schedule and requirements

Academic advisors can also use Clementine to assist students during appointments.

How to Access Clementine

Clementine: Class Search is available at: clementine.syr.edu

Log in with your Syracuse University credentials if prompted.

Queuing

To ensure a stable and reliable experience during periods of high demand, Clementine utilizes a queue system. If a large number of Syracuse University community members are accessing Clementine simultaneously, they may be placed in a queue before their session begins. When this occurs, a message will be displayed indicating their current position in the queue. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your understanding.

Tips for Getting the Best Results

  • Be specific — The more context you give, the better the results. "3-credit fall electives in data science" works better than just "data science"

  • Try different phrasings — If your first search doesn't land, rephrase and try again

  • Use it as a starting point — Clementine helps you explore; always verify final enrollment details in MySlice or with your Academic Advisor.

Clementine surfaces course information from the university's academic data. For live seat counts and registration, use MySlice.

Can Clementine tell me if a course counts toward my major requirements?
Clementine can help you find classes that align with requirements by description or attribute, but for official degree audit and requirement verification, consult your academic advisor or use Degree Works.

What makes Clementine different from Claude or other AI solutions?
Clementine is a purpose-built tool that leverages multiple technologies, including Claude, to deliver accurate and detailed course information specific to Syracuse University. The underlying data is sourced directly from the university's own datasets, meaning the depth and specificity of information available through Clementine cannot be found through general AI solutions or other external tools.

Who built Clementine?
Clementine was developed by the ITS Data & AI team and the Registrar’s Office at Syracuse University as part of the university's broader AI innovation initiative.

Is Clementine an authoritative source?
No. Although Clementine is supported by a comprehensive dataset of course information, it is still an AI-powered tool and is subject to error. Users should verify critical information through official university channels.

Do Academic Advisors or Faculty Advisors have access to Clementine?
Yes. Clementine is available to all members of the Syracuse University community, including Academic Advisors and Faculty Advisors.

Can Academic Advisors or Faculty Advisors view what I have asked Clementine?
