Provides an answer to the question posed

·      response clearly addresses the topic and engages with recommended texts

Extends/challenges central issues raised by the question

·      response takes a position on issues raised in question

Demonstrates thorough knowledge of sources used

·      response moves beyond short summary to contextualize complexity of core text’s claims/arguments

Engages in relevant texts

·      response acknowledges how other core or primary texts in the field address the proposed question

Joins/responds to disciplinary conversation

·      response embeds argument within larger context of discipline

Creates a coherent progression within their argument

·      response maintains focus and shows how the development of each section of the answer engaged with the question and connected with what had been said previously

Remains within required word limit

·      response must not exceed the allotted 4,000 - 6,000 words limit

Works cited list

·      response must include a complete listing of works used in development of argument
