Reporting Fire incidents in the lab/classroom
Syracuse University Fire and Life Safety Services suggests the following corrective actions be put in place going forward:
Any experiments involving open flame that are conducted in a classroom or other area that are not teaching laboratories, Fire and Life Safety (FLSS) must be notified 24 hours prior to the experiment taking place.
The following information shall be provided:
Date and time of the experiment
Person in charge of the experiment
Where the experiment is to be conducted, i.e. Building Name and Room Number
Brief description of the experiment
Fire and Life Safety staff will conduct a check of the area to ensure all protective measures are in place and will make a determination at that time if we need to assign FLSS personnel to be present for the duration of the experiment.
