    The Jennifer Corn Carter Resource and Career Center

    The Jennifer Corn Carter Resource and Career Center allows students in the Department of Sport Management access to professional support and guidance in career development and employment searches. It is also available to SPM alumni.

    Students should contact Sport Management internship placement coordinator Aaron Knighton at aknighto@syr.edu, 315-443-7418 to set up an appointment. He is located in MacNaughton Hall, Suite 300. Available services for career planning are varied and extensive to meet our diverse student body who are in various stages of the career exploration and planning process.

    Sport Management students and alumni can also benefit from the resources and services of SU’s Center for Career Services, which offers educational programming on professional development, skills and networking.

    David J. Stern

    Commissioner Emeritus, National Basketball Association

    David Stern completed his three-decade tenure as NBA commissioner on February 1, 2014. As commissioner, Stern built the model for professional sports in league operations, public service, global marketing, television distribution and digital technology. He oversaw the NBA’s growth with seven new franchises, a more than 30-fold increase in revenues, a dramatic expansion of national television exposure and the launch of leagues.

    President and Former Head Coach, Miami HEAT

    Team president of the Miami Heat since 1995, Pat Riley has established a standard of excellence within the franchise, both on and off the court, that has allowed the team to reach unprecedented heights and has positioned it as one of the most successful in the NBA. Never was that more evident than when Riley guided his group of “15 Strong” to the franchise’s first NBA championship in Dallas on June 20, 2006.



    Jerry West

    Former General Manager, Los Angeles Lakers & Memphis Grizzlies

    Combine a deadly jump shot, tenacious defense, obsessive perfectionism, unabashed confidence, and an uncompromising will to win, and you’ve got Jerry West, one of the greatest guards in NBA history. West became the Lakers’ head coach for the 1976-77 season and stayed on as a scout for three years becoming general manager in 1982, helping to build the Lakers’ dynasty of the 1980s. West was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1979 and was named the NBA Executive of the Year for 1995. After being employed by the Lakers for over 40 years, West retired but soon became the President of Basketball Operations of the Memphis Grizzlies on April 30, 2002.

    David Levy

    Sports Industry Veteran

    David Levy, an SU graduate, spent the last 30 years working in television. He served as president of Turner for the past six years before leaving in early 2019. When Levy departed, he had been in the CEO role since 2013 and with the company since 1987. In his CEO role, he oversaw the company’s portfolio of domestic networks, including TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, truTV and Turner Classic Movies.

    Laurie Orlando

    Senior Vice President, Talent Strategy, CBS News

    Laurie Orlando joined CBS News as senior vice president for talent strategy in January 2016. In this newly created position, Orlando oversees recruiting and development of and long term planning for on-air talent for all CBS News shows, including “CBS This Morning,” “CBS Evening News,” “48 Hours,” “CBS Sunday Morning,” “Face the Nation” and “60 Minutes”. She works closely with the digital and interactive groups who produce CBSN, the company’s 24-hour news service, as well as with the owned and operated affiliates throughout the country.

    Nick Carparelli

    Executive Director, Football Bowl Association

    Nick Carparelli, a longtime football administrator and sports executive, has been named the Executive Director of the Football Bowl Association. Widely respected in college football, Carparelli most recently served as Senior Director of College Sports Marketing at Under Armour, where he created strategic marketing plans for their collegiate partnerships. He was responsible for tripling the size of their collegiate partner portfolio, including the acquisition of high-profile schools such as Wisconsin and UCLA.

    Ronald C. Bernard

    Senior Advisor, Alvarez & Marsal; President, LWB Consulting

    Ronald Bernard has over 35 years experience in the entertainment, sports, and media industries in both senior operating and financial capacities. He is currently a Managing Director at Alvarez & Marsal specializing in the media/sports industries. In addition, since January 2003, he has been President of LWB Consulting, where he has worked with a number of private equity investors in identifying and acquiring media properties. LWB Consulting is a media/sports consulting advisory to private equity firms looking to make investments in the sports/entertainment industry.

    David Kleinhandler

    David Kleinhandler is president and founder of New Venture Financial Wellness and has been an entrepreneur for over 29 years. He is also the founder and CEO of Blackridge Capital, which was founded as a solution to help people think through complex tax and wealth transfer strategies. Kleinhandler’s other projects include Dynasty Financial Partners and Foundations, including a partnership with Carmelo Anthony, titled Courts for Kids, The Martin Luther King Foundation and David Kleinhandler’s Life Skills, a financial literacy initiative for Syracuse University students.
