Requirements for Lambda Alpha National Honor Society Membership
The Department of Anthropology at Syracuse University offers the opportunity for students to join the New York Delta Chapter of the Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society. The goal of Lambda Alpha is to acknowledge and reward academic excellence. It supports scholarship and research by acknowledging and honoring superior achievement in the discipline.
According to the Syracuse University Anthropology Department by-laws, students must meet the following requirements in order to become members of Lambda Alpha:
majoring in anthropology
completed 60 or more credits (Junior or Senior standing)
of those 60 credits, 12 or more are ANT credits
cumulative GPA of 3.4
anthropology GPA of 3.5
Students who meet these criteria will receive an email from the Undergraduate Director inviting them to apply for membership.
In order to apply for membership, students will need to submit a printed copy of the completed membership application form (attached above) and the $26 lifetime membership fee. The membership fee must be in the form of a check, made payable to the Lambda Alpha Honor Society. Please submit both of these things to the chapter faculty sponsor.
After submitting your application and payment, the faculty sponsor will sign the application (ensuring you have met all criteria for membership) and submit everything to Lambda Alpha. You will be sent a Lambda Alpha membership certificate from the national office to confirm your acceptance as a member of the honor society.
