Civic and Community Engagement Minor
Program Description
The Civic & Community Engagement (CCE) minor is designed to encourage students to evaluate ethical practices of citizenship and civic and community engagement. Students will evaluate the historical development of civic life in various geographical contexts and spaces. Through their coursework, students will be familiarized with social science topics and methodologies to analyze community and societal life and values. They will learn responsible ways of fostering public-private partnerships, grassroots organizing, and community collaborations to maximize social impact.
Students in the minor must work with the program’s minor advisor to plan their minor coursework to support their area(s) of academic interests and focus.
At least 12 credits must be at 300-level or above.
Program Values and Learning Outcomes
VALUES & ETHICS-Students will be able to evaluate ethical practices of citizenship and civic and community engagement in light of their own experience, as well as societal and community values.
RESEARCH & DISCOVERY-Students will be able to utilize social science research methodologies to discover community and societal facts and values.
COMMUNITY & CONTEXT-Students will be able to analyze and evaluate the historical development of civic life in specific geographical settings.
COLLABORATION & ENGAGEMENT-Students will be able to engage and collaborate within communities using appropriate and ethical methods.
DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION-Students will be able to create a feasible and sustainable community and/or civic engagement project with a community partner organization.
