    Definitions

    Researcher

    • Faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholar, student

    University Travel or University-sponsored research travel

    • More than 100 miles from Syracuse within the context of a researcher’s research responsibilities

    High-risk destination

    A country or region identified as one or both of the following:

    • U.S. State Department Level-3 or Level-4 risk https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html/

    • CDC Level-3 risk https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel

    Process 

    Step 1: Secure Approvals

    • Discuss planned travel with your department chair (faculty) or advisor (students). 

    • If a high-risk destination, contact Shana Gadarian (sgadaria@syr.edu) to petition the University's International High-Risk Travel Oversight Committee (IHTOC) for approval. 

    •  

      • Initiate the petition process no less than 3 months before planned travel to a high-risk destination. 

      • Under no circumstances proceed to a high-risk destination without review and approval of IHTOC. 

    Step 2: Register Your Trip

    Once approved, register your trip in the Syracuse University Travel Registry.
