    Off-Campus Studies & Training (Domestic & International)

    Feb 02, 2022

Any students doing practical training, such as internships or other studies, in a location other than Syracuse University's campus in Syracuse, New York, must follow the Requirements for Off-Campus Studies Guide.

For a guide to all paperwork necessary for any Off-Campus training or studies, including Global Programs, refer to Internships & Careers, available on the PAIA and Executive Student Blackboard Group

    Global Programs

    Global Programs Award Application

Any PAIA student engaging in any off-campus, credit-bearing opportunity, nationally or internationally, is eligible for a Global Programs Award. The award application is made available each semester. Students should watch for this announcement in their SU e-mail account.

    Practicum Forms

All students must fill out the appropriate internship proposal and independent study forms, even if their global program already has an internship element as part of the program. A faculty advisor is required for a credit-bearing internship or an independent study. Submit completed forms to the Global Programs Coordinator.

    Program Application Forms

Students are required to submit applications for all global program opportunities through either the Maxwell-in-Washington Program or SU Abroad.

    Study Abroad Forms

Students participating in opportunities outside of the United States are required to comply with the Protocols for Students Traveling Abroad for Academic Purposes (SU Abroad programs excluded). Students must sign the Condition of Participation and submit it to the Global Programs Coordinator.

    Internships

Internship requirements are designed to ensure that each experience serves a practical training purpose, equipping the student to enter the job market upon completion of the degree. To understand which internships qualify for academic credit and the assignments involved, please refer to the internship section of the PAIA and Executive Student Blackboard Group.

Visit the Global Programs page for a complete list of internship opportunities.

Check out The Stacks: PAIA at Home & Abroad, a blog featuring student reflections on their internship experiences.

For more information or to schedule a one-on-one meeting, please e-mail the Associate Director of Internships and Experiential Learning or the Director, Student Services, Josh Kennedy at jjkenn01@syr.edu.

Note: While the Global Programs Coordinator will provide advice and counsel on organizations for you to consider, facilitate contacts at these organizations, and review your application materials for any internship position, the Department of Public Administration and International Affairs does not provide direct placement within organizations. This is to ensure that the organization and position meet your specific needs and allow you the opportunity to successfully conduct an international relations job search.
