Political Science Honor Society and Other Opportunities

Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Honor Society for Political Science, accepts students who are Political Science majors or minors, who have an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher, and a GPA of 3.4 or higher in all Political Science-related coursework. Students must have completed 12 credits (4 courses) of upper-division Political Science coursework at Syracuse University and 50% of their baccalaureate degree before applying. To apply, fill out an application and turn it in to Candy Brooks in 100 Eggers Hall. The deadline for turning in Pi Sigma applications is the 15th of each month during the fall and spring semesters.

The faculty advisor for Pi Sigma Alpha is Professor Grant Reeher ( gdreeher@maxwell.syr.edu).

Clubs and Organizations : Numerous student groups on campus are involved in political and policy matters, including the College Democrats and College Republicans. Many of our majors become members and leaders of these clubs.

Study Abroad: Political science courses are offered through the SU Abroad program centers in Beijing, Florence, Istanbul, London, Madrid, and Strasbourg, among other locations. These courses can be applied toward the PSC major requirements.

Publishing Political Science Research: For students interested in turning a class research paper, distinction thesis, or honors thesis into a publishable article, work with your faculty advisor and consider submitting your article to one of the following undergraduate political science journals:

    • Critique
    • Hemispheres: Tufts Undergraduate Journal of International Relations
    • Journal of Politics and International Affairs
    • Journal of Politics and Society
    • Journal of Undergraduate International Studies
    • The Pi Sigma Alpha Undergraduate Journal of Politics
    • Studium: The Student Journal of Political Science
