Requesting New GCP Projects
Updated Oct 14

    Requesting New GCP Projects

  • In progress
  • Google Cloud Projects are divided into two use categories: Enterprise and Academic. Enterprise consists of business and departmental use, while Academic is for class and research use. See the related sections below for requesting the different uses.

    Enterprise Use

To request a new Google Cloud Platform project for enterprise use in the g.syr.edu domain, the https://support.atlassian.syr.edu/servicedesk/customer/portal/22/group/1079/create/2012 form needs to be submitted.

    You will need to provide:

    • DAG # (required)

    • List of all GCP project admins (must be c- accounts)

A management server will be required to access Google Cloud Platform resources with your c- account.

After this is submitted, a member from the CDI Applications team will be in contact for the creation of the project and for any other required information.

    Access Groups

For new GCP projects, a new Entra group is created and handed off to the ITS group sponsoring the DAG managing the project. The group is structured as the following:

    Group for DAG/folder admin: DAG-###-GCP-Project-Admin

    Group for Project admin: GCP-Project-Admin-<ProjectKey>

The Admin group will contain the related c- accounts and will have full access (Owner) to the GCP project. The User group will contain the standard NetID accounts and will only have view access to the GCP project initially. The Admin group (c- accounts) is able to assign and delegate appropriate permissions to the User group.
