Definitions

Hold: Order is not rushed from the vendor. Rush processing and/or delivery charges are not incurred. Item is rushed through receipt, cataloging, and end-processing. After end-processing, item goes directly to Circulation, the appropriate branch, or Media Services (if non-book). Staff in Circulation, branch, or Media notify Faculty / Patron that item is available at the Circulation desk for 10 days. Through the circulation module, a note is placed in the OPAC that the item is available at the (name) public service desk.

 

Notify: Faculty / Patron requests notification when item has been processed. Order is not rushed from the vendor. Rush processing and/or delivery charges are not incurred. Item is rushed through receipt, cataloging, and end-processing. After end-processing, item goes directly to Circulation, the appropriate branch, or Media Services (if non-book). Staff in Circulation, branch, or Media notify Faculty / Patron that item is available at the Circulation desk for 10 days. Through the circulation module, a note is placed in the OPAC that the item is available at the (name) public service desk.

Rush Order: Order is phoned in to vendor.

Rush Delivery: Assuming item is in stock, vendor will send material out in 3 days, by 2 day UPS delivery. Extra cost of approximately $10 (charged to requesting fund code) and $7-8 shipping (charged to shipping fund code).

Move to head of order queue: Order is placed in envelope for searcher and that envelope is placed first in line, the next one to be taken and worked on by a searcher.

Rush processing: Upon receipt, item is cataloged within 24 hours. This includes original cataloging, problem resolution, etc., if necessary.

Expedited processing: Upon receipt, item is cataloged and processed normally, except that it will not be placed in any backlog. Problems will be resolved (usually within a 1-2 week period). Item will receive preservation treatment.

Normal processing: Upon receipt, item is cataloged and processed through normal procedures. If no suitable catalog record is available at point of cataloging, it will get a minimal record. Items in with minimal records are searched on a regular basis for more complete records.

Preservation: Normal preservation treatment (stiffening) takes one week.
