Syracuse University websites, such as Myslice, may require the enabling of pop-ups in order to view desired content. Below you will find instructions on enabling pop-ups within the most commonly used browsers.

Google Chrome 33.0 and Above

When you select a link that requires a pop-up and they are currently blocked, you are provided the message " Pop-up blocked" which appears on the address bar. This indicates that the pop-up was initiated by the webpage and Chrome's pop-up block feature prevented it from opening.

For immediate relief, you must click on the message to enable pop-ups. Pop-ups can be permanently enabled by clicking on the message on from the drop down menu selecting "Always allow pop-ups from" ... or "myslice.syr.edu" specifically in the case below.

Now open the link again to see that it populates a new window.

Creating Exceptions for Frequently Used Webpages

1) In the address bar type "chrome://settings/content".

2) Next, navigate to the Pop-ups area.

3) Here you will select "Manage exceptions".

4) In the box that says "Host Pattern" enter the web address of the desired exception. In the Behavior drop down, select as "Allow".

5) Now Click Done.

The desired website should now allow pop-ups.

Mozilla Firefox 28.0 and Above


Whenever a up window tries to launch itself Mozilla prevents it from opening and displays a message on a yellow ribbon which reads " Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window"

In order to view the pop-up, select "Options" on the yellow ribbon. Now select "Always allow pop-ups for myslice.syr.edu".

Creating Exceptions for Frequently Used Webpages

1) Click on the "Firefox" menu on the top left corner of the Firefox window.

2) Under the "Options" area, select "Options".

3) Under the "Contents" tab select "Exceptions...".

4) This will bring you to a new window. Under "Address of website:" enter the website that you would like as an exception. Once done, click on "Allow".

The desired website should now allow pop-ups.

 

Safari 5.0 and Above

1) While in the Safari application, open the Safari Menu in the top left hand corner and select "Preferences".

If "Safari" is not an option to the right of your Apple symbol in the top left hand corner, be sure that you click on the Safari window. If you have recently clicked on another application or your desktop, "Finder" or another application title may be here instead.

2) Under the security tab, ensure "Block pop-up windows" is unchecked in the Web content area.

Safari should now allow pop-ups to function normally.

 

Internet Explorer 10 and Above

The default settings of Internet Explorer will prevent pop-ups and display a message on the bottom similar to "Internet Explorer blocked a pop-up from...". To

To alleviate this for an individual website, select "Always allow " by clicking on option for this site when the message is displayed.

Click on the gear symbol on the upper right corner of the window and from the drop down select "Internet Options".

Under the Privacy tab, you can either turn off the pop-up blocker by deselecting "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" or add individual exceptions.

For individual exceptions, select "Settings" from this same Privacy tab.

In the new window type the website address you'd like as an exception into the location "Address of website to allow:". Now click "Add" and then click on "Close".

The desired website(s) should now allow pop-ups.
