Retrieving an RDP File for RDS
To connect through the RDP client, you first need to obtain the RDP file from the web client.
Accessing RDS
Open a web browser and go to rds.syr.edu.Settings Access
In the top right corner, you'll see a sprocket icon ⚙️. Click on it.Download Setting
In the Settings Pane, select the radio button labeled "Download the rdp file."Login Prompt
If you are not logged in already, you might be prompted to do so using your email address (NetID@syr.edu) and NetID password.Resource Selection
Return to the main screen of the web page and choose a resource icon. Clicking on a collection icon will trigger the download of an RDP file, which can then be used to connect.Connect to RDS via an RDP Client
Before connecting via an RDP client, ensure you have retrieved the RDP file using the steps provided above.

Login Prompt:
Download the RDP file again following the instruction above. The old file may no longer hold correct connection information.Launch the Windows App on your OS and click “Sign In” and sign in with your @syr.edu email and password.
Click “Skip” on the welcome screen.
Under Devices, locate “Azure Virtual Desktop - Windows” and below it, click “Connect”. If prompted for a password, enter your NetID password.
Troubleshooting
Problem:
RDP Error - "There was a problem connecting to the remote resource. Ask your network administrator for help"
Solution:
If you receive a popup asking “Allow remote desktop connection”, click “Yes”.
