Overview

The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign in to your accounts when you're using two-factor verification.

Number matching is combined with location information to help ensure the sign-in request was in fact initiated by you, and not a malicious actor.

Here is an example of what you'll see when signing into a website that requires MFA (myslice, blackboard, sumail, etc..), on the left is the website, on the right is Microsoft Authenticator.

  1. Depending on how you are accessing Syracuse University resources, you might be prompted to log into to a service/app using MFA

  2. After using signing in, you will be prompted with a number to enter into the Microsoft Authenticator App. Below is an example showing the login screen to the site on the left, and the Microsoft authenticator on the right:
