The department offers waiver exams in statistics and economics.  These exams are designed to demonstrate proficiency in statistical and economic concepts covered in PAI 721: Introduction to Statistics and PAI 723: Economics for Public Decisions.  Passage of the waiver exam thus meets the degree requirements, but does not change the overall number of credits needed for the degree.

Statistics Waiver Exam

Economics Waiver Exam

The economics waiver exam focuses primarily on microeconomics and its application in public policy. It does involve mathematics and some basic graphing, so do be prepared to engage with that material.  For a sense of the types of problems that you may see on the economics waiver exam, please consult the personal websites of Professor David Popp and Professor John McPeak.  The questions on these problem sets and exams will not be exact duplicates, but be similar in content and scope to what could be expected on the waiver exam.

The economics waiver exam will be delivered online in blackboard.
