Hinds Hall classrooms feature integration technology where all of the rooms technical capabilities are controlled through one teaching station panel.  Classrooms 021 and 018 in the basement both have Local PC, projector, DVD/VCR Combo, Document Camera, Aux video, and laptop connection capabilities which are controlled throughout the Extron panel.

The Extron Panel and Teaching Station Layout

Each piece of technology in the 021 and 018 teaching stations(both rooms have identical teaching station layouts) are identified on the image below.

From top to bottom the varying technologies are briefly described below.

The Local PC Monitor (top) is displaying what the Local PC (bottom right) is outputting, and is mounted to the teaching station for reference.  This image is also displayed at the teaching podium.

The Extron Panel (below the Local PC Monitor) is the control center for what is being displayed, as well as the classroom audio volume.

The AUX Video outlet (below the Local PC Monitor) is an input station for devices which use A/V connections and can be projected.

The USB Port (below the AUX Video Outlet) allows users to insert a USB drive which is then recognized by the Local PC.

The DVD/VCR Combo Player (Below the EXTRON Panel) is capable of projecting DVD's or VCR to the classroom.

The Document Camera (below the DVD/VCR player) is a projection device for non-digital items.

The Wired keyboard and mouse (below Document Camera) control the Local PC.

The Wireless Mouse (below wired keyboard and mouse) also control the Local PC, and is often used at the teaching station.

The Local PC (bottom right) is the main computer for the room and professor to utilize.

All of these devices are linked to the Extron Panel (aside from the AUX video input), which is located on the left side of the teaching station below the Local PC Monitor, as shown in the image above.  The image below is a close up the Extron Panel, and will be discussed more thoroughly below.

Operating the Extron Panel

To Turn on the projector (mounted on the ceiling) fom the teaching station first go to the display section (top left) and select "ON," which is shown in the image below.

After the Projector has been turned on an input needs to be selected so the projector knows what to display.  The options are the DVD/VCR Combo, AUX Video, Local PC, Document Camera, or a Laptop, as shown in the image below.

To Control the volume of the mounted classroom wall speakers the Extron panel features a volume knob which can adjust levels; to turn the volume down turn the knob to the left, and to increase volume turn the knob to the right, as highlighted below.

Connecting a Laptop to the Projector

It is possible to connect a laptop to the projector if a professor desires to do so.

First turn on the projector as discussed earlier, and then select the "Laptop" input option, as shown below.

Next connect the Laptop to the "Laptop Connection" on the Teaching Podium (where the professor stands to address the class), as shown in the image below.

NOTE: Only VGA Connections are available in the classrooms, in order to use a laptop on the projector the laptop MUST have a VGA output.

Powering Off the Teaching Station and Projector

Select "Off" in the Extron Panel Display options.

NOTE: Please return the wireless mouse to its designated location on the teaching station so it can charge for the next professor.
