    Declaration of a Minor form

    Declaring a Major in Anthropology

Students in the College of Arts and Science (including social science fields of the Maxwell School) must declare a major by the second semester of their sophomore year. To declare your major you must complete the Official Program of Study Form, available in the eForms section of MySlice,  you will receive confirmation via email once your form has been approved or denied.  You should take this opportunity to discuss the requirements, your plan of study and career options.

    Declaring a Minor in Anthropology

If you decide to complete a minor you should meet with the Undergraduate Director, Professor Azra Hromadžić, and put together a plan of study. To declare you minor you must fill out the Declaration of Minor form (available on the registrar's website or 323 Hall of Languages). Fill out the top portion of the form and sign and date it. Once this is complete, meet with the Undergraduate Director who will sign the form and welcome you to the department. You will then have to forward the signed form to your Home College advisor for signature and processing.

Declaring a Minor in Medical Anthropology

If you decide to complete a minor in medical anthropology you should meet with the Faculty Advisor, Professor Kyrstin Mallon Andrews, and put together a plan of study.  To declare your minor you must fill out the Declaration of Minor form (available on the registrar's website or 323 Hall of Languages). Fill out the top portion of the form and sign and date it. Once this is complete, meet with the Faculty Advisor who will sign the form and welcome you to the department. You will then have to forward the signed form to your Home College advisor for signature and processing.

    Selecting an Advisor

When you declare a major in anthropology, the Anthropology Department's Undergraduate Director will be assigned as your academic advisor, and your records transferred to the Anthropology Department. The Undergraduate Director is also assigned as the departmental advisor to students minoring in anthropology, but primary academic advising responsibilities remains with the home department. As you pursue your major or minor in anthropology you may develop interests in a particular region, topic or sub discipline, and work more closely with a specific faculty member. You may request this person as your anthropology advisor. We urge you to stay in contact on a regular basis with your advisor, and he or she can be helpful in discussing your program and progress at Syracuse University, as well as career goals.

    Dual and Combined Degree Programs

Many anthropology courses can be applied to dual degree programs, such as the Arts and Sciences/Education degree. In addition, a degree in anthropology may be combined with degrees in other fields, such as communications, political science, and foreign languages. For further information on dual and combined degrees see the Undergraduate Course Catalog, or ask your faculty advisor or the Anthropology Undergraduate Director.
