Syracuse University offers GitHub to its active students, faculty, and staff. GitHub is a platform for collaborative software development, enabling version control, project management, and team coordination for code-based projects. Despite its focus on software development, GitHub can be used for collaborating on and managing any text-based or version-controlled projects such as configuration files, project assets, or sharing any type of files that could benefit from version tracking and collaboration. This way, everyone can work collaboratively together while tracking change history and any related approvals if needed.

Access to GitHub

Access to GitHub must be granted by IT support through the addition of the user(s) to the SU group named: SU-RSC-GitHub.

An access request to GitHub maybe made to your local IT support staff or via the ITS Help Desk.

Start using GitHub

Once granted GitHub access:

• An email will be sent to your Syracuse University mailbox (typically within 60 minutes).
• Create a GitHub.com account or follow the instructions in the email to link any existing personal GitHub account with your Syracuse University identity by completing the sign-in process.
• After successful sign-in, you will be presented your account's "Dashboard". 
• You may access the Syracuse University organization by using the "View organization" button or by navigating to the following page:  Syracuse University (github.com)
• Request to join an existing GitHub Team or follow one of the use case guides to create your own.
• Be sure to customize your GitHub Notifications
