Exceptions:

The goal of the department is to minimize exceptions in processing. We are documenting current exceptions and rethinging them in light of our reduced staff. Once a decision is made we will indicate that on our list.

1. DVDs in the wellness collection get call numbers, in the general collection get accession numbers.

2. DVDs in the wellness collection get barcoded on the outside of the box. DVDs in the general collection get barcoded on the inside of the box.

2A When there are 2 DVD in 1 box they need to be separated and given two bar codes. (Pat is checking on this)

3. Books in Belfer have the owning Library of Syracuse University. Sound recordings in Belfer have the owning library of Belfer.

4. Music sound recordings when they are accompanying a book get separated from the book and cataloged and housed as a sound recording. All other accompanying material remains with the book.

5. Sound recordings get enhanced 505 Table of Contents added by the cataloger with title/composer/performer information.

6. Addition of specific award to each title received in the Children’s Awards program

7. Reclassification of science titles in the Children’s Awards program to a PZ call number

8. Local conventions for 856; use of standardized $z public notes, non-display of URL.

The following exceptions exist to support current shelving of the collection.

9. Oversize differs between gen collection, N and M call numbers, limited access, and atlases. Ref collections have no oversize.

     Subfield k is needed for oversize items except for locations of Atlas oversize and Atlas oversize flat.

10. When giving a permanent location it is bird followed by the first letter of the class number with these exceptions .

         d   which is divided between d  (D  mono) and da (DA-DX)  

         h    which is divided between h-hd (H-HD2200) and  hd- (HD2321 and over) ;  

         n   which is divided between n (N and NA mono) and nb (NB and over) 

         tr  moved to Bird (Sept. 2022- ) 

11. DVDs, CD-ROMs, CDs, etc. are identified in an 866 by the term used in the 300 +e. If there are multiple items (2 CD-ROMS, 2 CDs, etc.) they become discs in the 866 i.e. disc 1-disc 2.
