Sponsor: The Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association Scholarship: The Honorable Federick J. Scullin, Jr. Scholarship Requirements: Detailed description: In December 2005, the Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association (“the Association”) established The Honorable Frederick J. Scullin, Jr. Scholarship Program to recognize exemplary law students who attend Albany Law School, Cornell University College of Law, and Syracuse University College of Law. In calendar year 2023, the Association will select three (3) scholars, one from each school, each of whom will receive a scholarship in the sum of $2,000. Students currently in their second year of law school are eligible to apply. Along with a copy of the scholarship application, students must submit the following:
Deadline: October 15, 2023 Interested students may submit their applications electronically to the Scholarship Program Chairs, Doreen A. Simmons, Esq. (dsimmons@hancocklaw.com) and Adam J. Katz, Esq., (Adam.Katz@usdoj.gov) by October 15, 2023. Members of the Scholarship Program Committee will interview applicants under consideration during the month of October, 2023 and will notify the selected scholars shortly thereafter. Sponsor: The New York Bar Foundation Scholarship: Real Property Law Section Melvyn Mitzner Scholarship Requirements: Detailed description: The scholarship has been established by the Foundation through a gift from the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) and from Rosalyn Mitzner to honor the memory of Melvyn Mitzner, a former Chair of the Section. The $5,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to a second or third-year law student. Efforts will be made to honor Melvyn Mitzner’s commitment to professional achievement in the area of real property law including legal writing, lecturing and scholarship, and diversity in the profession. Sponsor: Schenectady County Bar Association Scholarship: The John Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2023-2024 Detailed Description: The Fund was established in 1980 by the Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth M. Alexander, a widow of John Alexander. The Fund was created to provide scholarships for Schenectady County residents. Requirements: The conditions for receipt of the scholarship are that the applicant reside in Schenectady County and be a full-time candidate for a Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Law Degree at an accredited New York Law School. Deadline: December 1, 2023 Amount: The income of the trust and the number of applicants determines the amount of the scholarship to be awarded to each recipient in a given year. Sponsor : DWI Tom Scholarship: "What We Can Do to Prevent People From Driving Intoxicated in Our Communities?" Scholarship Detailed Description: Beginning in 2023, DWI Tom intends to offer a $2,500 “What We Can Do to Prevent People From Driving Intoxicated in Our Communities?” Scholarship to rising and current college students. Students can submit essays between 500 and 1,000 words to the firm’s scholarship selection committee for a chance to win the firm’s financial support. DWI Tom hopes that this scholarship encourages incoming and current college students to think critically about the dangers of drinking and driving. The firm intends to judge incoming scholarship essays on a student’s creativity and research as well as their suggestions’ actionability. Requirements: DWI Tom wants rising and current college students to answer the question, “What can we do to prevent people from driving intoxicated in our communities?” The firm requests that students’ finished essays fall between 500 and 1,000 words.
