Preliminary steps:

• You may need to allow downloads from anywhere in your System Preferences by choosing Security and Privacy, unlocking with your Mac credentials, and selecting Anywhere.
• Download Canon printer drivers by navigating to http://law.syr.edu/uploads/files/CanonV9.zip. Click Save File. Click on the UFRII_v10.09.00_Mac.dmg file in Downloads and follow the steps to install the necessary drivers.
• Download HP printer drivers by navigating to http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907. Click on the download link, then download and install the drivers.
  
  

Adding a Printer

1. Click on the Apple icon and then select System Preferences.
   
   
   
   

2. Click on Printers & Scanners.
   
   
   
   

   If you did an upgrade from a previous version of OS X and you had College of Law printers installed, they need to be deleted. These printers should show up in the new window, to delete a printer, select it, then click on the "-" under the list of printers. After all the old printers have been deleted, continue with the install instructions.

3. Click on the "+" under the list of printers and select Add Printer or Scanner.. from the dropdown menu
   
   
   
   
4. An Add window should now show up. Look for an Advanced button on the Add window toolbar (next to Default, IP and Windows). If there is no Advanced button, you will need to customize your toolbar. Control+click on the toolbar area and select Customize Toolbar...
   
   
   
   
5. Drag the Advanced item over onto the toolbar and click Done.
   
   
   
   
6. Now click on the Advanced button.
   
   
7. In the Add window, in the Type field, select Windows printer via spoolss.
   
   
8. Leave the Device field set to Another Device.
   
   
9. In the URL field enter the following
   
   smb://law-prq-02.ad.syr.edu/"printername"   (no quotes) where printer name is one of the following:  
   
   Law-Library140
   Law-Library240
   Law-Library140-2
   
   
10. Enter a Name and Location (use the printer name as listed above).
    
    
11. In the Use field, choose Select Printer Software, and add a driver as described below
    
    
    1. For the Law-Library140 and Law-Library240 printers, type Canon IR in the search box and then locate the Canon IR-ADV 4245 driver and click OK
       
       
       
       
    2. For the Law-Library140-2 printer, type HP in the search box and locate the HP LaserJet 600 M601 M602 M603 driver and click OK.
       
       You will be prompted for options on the HP printer, select the following:
       Check the box for Duplex Unit
       Tray 3 - select HP 500-Sheet Input Tray
       Tray 4 - select HP 1500-Sheet Input Tray
       
       
12. Click Add.
    
    
    
    
13. The printer should now be added.
    
    
14. Repeat steps 3 - 12 to add the other two printers (you do not need to repeat steps 4 & 5), ensuring that you select the correct driver.
    
    
15. The first time you try to print, you should be prompted to enter your credentials. Please enter your NetID and password. If you wish to save the credentials to your Keychain, you can do so by checking the box in the authentication window.
    
    
    
    
16. If you are NOT PROMPTED to enter your credentials, and when you try to print, your print job pauses with the message On Hold (Authentication Required),  then open your Mac Keychain, search for "law" and find an entry for the printers. If you find one, then delete it from the Keychain, 
    
    
17. Go back to your print job and either click Resume or double click the paused print job and enter your username and password.as shown above.
