Scholarship: Difference Makers Scholarship
Detailed Description: Brandon Wong & Associates has negotiated, litigated, and mediated many complex family law cases over the years. This experience has provided Attorney Wong and his legal team with a new perspective on family and a greater understanding of the importance of community. Our San Antonio family law firm works tirelessly to ease the stress and concerns of our clients during emotional times, and we take pride in the difference we have been able to make in our clients’ lives over the years.
Requirements: to apply for the Difference Makers Scholarship, we ask students to submit contact information and proof of enrollment (examples: unofficial academic transcript, letter of acceptance/admittance, etc.) We also require that each student include a submission in the form of an essay (1,000 word or less) or video (5 minutes or less) answering the following prompt:
What is the best memory you have made while making a difference within your community? What positive changes do you hope to make in your community in the near future? Why do you think this type of service is important?
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled or accepted into an ABA accredited law school in the United States
- Student is in their 2L or 3L year of Law school
- Student is a United States Citizen or permanent resident

Scholarship: The John Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2023-2024
Detailed Description: The Fund was established in 1980 by the Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth M. Alexander, a widow of John Alexander. The Fund was created to provide scholarships for Schenectady County residents.
Requirements: The conditions for receipt of the scholarship are that the applicant reside in Schenectady County and be a full-time candidate for a Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Law Degree at an accredited New York Law School.
Eligibility Criteria
- Proof of residency in Schenectady County (i.e. copy of driver's license)
- Letter from Syracuse Law confirming enrollment and good academic standing
Deadline: December 1, 2023
Amount: The income of the trust and the number of applicants determines the amount of the scholarship to be awarded to each recipient in a given year. As such, there is no set amount awarded for the scholarship from year to year. Last year, there were sixteen (16) recipients, each of whom received $2,375.

Detailed Description: At Weinberg Law Office, our committed lawyers handle cases within a range of personal injury practice areas that include car accidents, dog bite injuries, slip and falls, and wrongful death. Our team understands how challenging it can be for injured individuals and their families to seek justice against negligent parties. This is why the team at Weinberg Law Office has created the 2023 Weinberg Law Office Scholarship Contest . We want to hear from students about a challenge they have overcome and how it shaped them to seek out a law degree.
Requirements: We are asking students to write a 500-word essay about the following:
What is a Challenge You Have Faced, and Why Has it Shaped You to Seek Out a Law Degree?

Scholarship: Military Veteran Scholarship
Detailed Description: At The Behan Law Group, P.L.L.C., we have great respect for those who dedicate their lives in service to their country and community. Our founding attorney, Michelle Behan, is a U.S. Navy Veteran, and she has been a passionate advocate for Veterans throughout her legal career, including by providing criminal defense counsel for Veterans in need and serving on a regional committee for Veterans’ issues in Arizona under Senator Jeff Flake.
We are offering The Behan Law Group Military Veteran Scholarship to support Veterans and their children in the pursuit of higher education. This scholarship in the amount of $1,000 can be used for tuition and other educational expenses at a college or university of your choice.

- For your application to be considered, you will need to submit an essay of 500 to 1,000 words on the following topic:
- "How has your experience as a Veteran or the child of a Veteran influenced your academic and career goals? How do you plan to use your education to make a positive impact in your community?
- With your essay, you will also need to submit your most recent high school or college academic transcript, proof of military service for yourself or your parent, a professional headshot, and contact information including your name, address, phone number, and email address.
Deadline: December 6, 2023
They will select and notify winners no later than January 8, 2024, and they will work with the financial aid department at your university to submit the award.

Scholarship: "What We Can Do to Prevent People From Driving Intoxicated in Our Communities?" Scholarship
Detailed Description: Beginning in 2023, DWI Tom intends to offer a $2,500 “What We Can Do to Prevent People From Driving Intoxicated in Our Communities?” Scholarship to rising and current college students. Students can submit essays between 500 and 1,000 words to the firm’s scholarship selection committee for a chance to win the firm’s financial support.
DWI Tom hopes that this scholarship encourages incoming and current college students to think critically about the dangers of drinking and driving. The firm intends to judge incoming scholarship essays on a student’s creativity and research as well as their suggestions’ actionability.
Requirements: DWI Tom wants rising and current college students to answer the question, “What can we do to prevent people from driving intoxicated in our communities?” The firm requests that students’ finished essays fall between 500 and 1,000 words.

While students aren’t required to answer any other questions beyond the initial prompts, the firm recommends that students consider the following:
- Why do people continue to drink and drive, despite knowing the dangers?
- Will a community that better understands the consequences of drinking and driving see fewer drinking and driving incidents?
- Are there communities that promote or encourage drinking and driving more than others?
- What tools, like rideshare services or free designated driver support programs, can communities use to reduce drinking and driving?
Eligibility Criteria:
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Are enrolled in or accepted at an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States
- Agree to the scholarship terms and conditions
- Submit the necessary application materials, including the aforementioned essay, proof of GPA, and proof of enrollment or acceptance
Deadline: December 15, 2023
DWI Tom will only contact its scholarship recipient after choosing its winning essay. Applicants can keep an eye on DWI Tom’s blog for an announcement regarding the firm’s decision.

Detailed Description: The attorneys at Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C., are now offering an exclusive Diversity in Law Scholarship Contest for first-and second-year law school students. We are proud to sponsor a nationwide scholarship to promote diversity within the legal profession.
Our Diversity in Law Scholarship will award a $2,500 scholarship for law school tuition or other school-related expenses.
This scholarship will be available to 1L/2L students who attend an ABA-accredited law school in the United States and identify as members of a historically underrepresented group within the legal profession.

Detailed Description: Cheney Galluzzi & Howard, LLC is proud to announce a scholarship opportunity to support the advancement of post-secondary education. At CGH, we fight for a more just world, inside and outside the courtroom. Part of that starts with helping young people secure an education. This year we will be awarding a $5,000 scholarship to a current college or trade school student, or high school senior accepted into and soon to enter a college or trade school.
Requirements:

Detailed Description: The law office of Newland & Newland, LLP provides exceptional representation and trusted legal guidance to injury victims and their families throughout Cook County and the surrounding areas. We aspire to help single parents and their children overcome the challenges preventing them from pursuing higher education by providing the Newland & Newland Single Parent Scholarship. Scholarship: Max J. Madrid Law Diversity Scholarship
Detailed Description: To advance the goals of diversity and inclusion within the legal profession, Modrall Sperling has established the Max J. Madrid Law Diversity Scholarship. The scholarship provides tuition assistance towards an awardee's second or third year or law school in the amount of $10,000. The scholarship's name honors our former litigation partner and dear friend who tragically passed away in 2012. Max was a passionate advocate for the goals of diversity and inclusion that we espouse.
Requirements: Application must be submitted by e-mail to Regina Torrez, reinat@modrall.com. For an application to be considered complete and reviewed, it must include all of the following:
- A personal statement of 500 to 700 words addressing eligibility and selection criteria;
- A current resume showing applicant's education, job history, and community involvement;
- A five- to ten-page writing sample, unedited by any third party, preferably on a law topic;
- Transcripts (official or unofficial) from undergraduate and graduate or law programs; and
- Two academic, professional and/or employment references, with full contact information.
Basic Eligibility:
- Persons in their first or second year of law school may apply
Selection Criteria:
- Strong academic achievement in college, and if applicable, first year of law school;
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with employment and/or community service experience;
- Demonstrated excellence in research and communication skills, including written and oral;
- Compelling statement of the applicant's desire and the ability to overcome obstacles;
- Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and demonstrated desire to practice law in the State of New Mexico; and
- The student must be in good standing, and the chosen law school must be ABA-accredited.
