Steps to setup or renew a Smart Card @ Syracuse University
- Use RDP to connect to the server "core-scmgmt-01.ad.syr.edu"
- When prompted for Logon, use your smart card to logon or if you are setting up a new or expired smart card use the username: c-netid (example: c-testuser) and the password: SecureOrange!
- If the password above does not work, then c- account might not have been staged correctly for the completion of these steps. Contact the IT group that provided the smart card.
- On the desktop of the server find the "Setup Smartcard" icon and double click on it.
- Choose an option number and hit enter after entering the number:
- 1 - Setup a new smart card
- 2 - Renew an Existing Smart or setup a virtual smart card
- 3 - Complete a smart card setup that did not complete previously
- When prompted enter the PIN that is used to secure the smart card. If you are setting up a new smart card device, the default PIN is 0000. If attempting to renew a smart card, use the already existing PIN for the smart card.
- The process is now underway and can take a few minutes.
- If prompted, enter the PIN again.
- When the Setup is complete hit "Enter" to close the window and Logoff/Sign Out of the RDP session.
- A renewal appointment that can be added as a reminder to your Outlook calendar, so as to renew the smart card before it expires; is sent when the process is complete.
Notes:
- If any kind of error occurs or the process does not complete in a few minutes time, the process can be completed later by using option "3" instead.
Final Steps
If the smart card is still using the default PIN of 0000 then the PIN should be changed. Follow the instructions at the link below to complete the change.
