To check classroom, production space, and lab availability in Shaffer Art Building, visit the Facilities Hours page linked here. Check the calendars for space availability and follow the below instructions.

Note: the Digital Photo Lab (036E) is not reservable.

  1. To reserve classroom spaces, contact the Department of Film and Media Arts office staff.
  2. To reserve production spaces, students must do so in-person at the VPA Cage. Production spaces require reservations and swipe access, except for the Photo Shooting Studios 036F/G, which are only open during lab hours and are not given swipe access.
  3. All labs are located in the basement of Shaffer Art Building. Labs are open to Department of Film and Media Arts students, or students currently enrolled in a Department of Film and Media Arts course.
    1.  The Photo Shooting Studios in particular is the only space open to all Syracuse University students. There are two shooting studio spaces with backdrops available for use. Equipment, such as Canon 5D, tripod, D-1 strobe kits, and light meters, are available for use by students majoring or enrolled in a course in the Department of Film and Media Arts. We highly recommend reservations as this space is used frequently, so drop-ins cannot always be accommodated.
    2. Check Blackboard Organization > VPA Equipment Cage for current operating hours, announcements, and policies. If you are unable to access this Blackboard Organization page, email vpcage@syr.edu for access.
