  • Moleskine Plain Kraft 7.5 x 10 sketchbook (nothing smaller) 
  • 18 x 24 Drawing Pad and Newsprint pad 
  • Various painting supplies (acrylic set of 6 is good, and or watercolor or oils) 
  • Charcoal, pencils (set of drawing pencils), brushes (flat round and point) 
  • 12” Metal Ruler • Scissors 
  • Needle nose pliers with wire cutter 
  • X-Acto knife and blades 
  • Utility knife and blades 
  • Large hot glue gun 

  • Needle and thread (black and white)

All incoming students are expected to have the list of clothing items prior to the start of classes in fall semester. Please look for your major below, for specific clothing requirements:

Dress Requirements for Acting Classes (For Acting and Musical Theater Majors) 

  • Sweats and loose, comfortable clothing (no jeans) 
  • 1 – pair sneakers, ballet shoes or jazz shoes (soft soled shoes) and have character shoes

Requirements for Dance Classes (For Musical Theater Majors ONLY)

Men 

  • 3 – 4 dance belts 
  • 4 pair Men’s black tights 
  • 1 pair Ballet shoes – fitted with or without wearing socks 
  • 1 pair flat jazz shoes (required) and 1 pair jazz sneakers (optional)
  • 1 pair character shoes 
  • White T-shirts that will be secured at the waist

Women 

  • 2 – 4 black dance leotards 
  • 4 pair pink dance tights 
  • 1 pair ballet shoes
  • 1 pair flat jazz shoes (required) and 1 pair jazz sneakers (optional)
  • 1 pair character shoes with 2 – 3 inch heels
  • Waist elastic
  • 5-foot medium-strength theraband

All incoming Design students should have the following materials. These materials will be available as a single kit from the Syracuse University Book Store beginning August 01, 2019, but if a student already has some of these tools and supplies they do not need to purchase the entire kit. Students may also purchase these items individually form the bookstore or another retailer of art and design tools.

  • Cutting Mat 12x18 Translucent
  • Xacto Knife
  • Box 100 #11 Xacto Blades
  • 24” Cork Backed Steel Ruler
  • 45/45/90 Triangle (10” size)
  • Sobo Glue 4oz
  • Aluminum Push Pins 1/2"
  • Drawing Pencils: 1 @ HB, 1 @ 2B
  • 2 @ Black Conte Crayon
  • Sharpie Marker Black Extra Fine

The following should be purchased prior to your arrival on campus: 

  • 8” Dressmaking Shears (we highly recommend Gingher KNIFE EDGE, not serrated)
  • Paper Scissors (colored plastic handle makes it easier to differentiate with Fabric Shears!) 
  • 4” embroidery scissors (knife edge, also Gingher)
  • Seam ripper  Tape Measure 60”
  • Clear Plastic ruler, 18” x 2”, 1/8” grid (NO metal edge, often found in the quilting area)
  • Sewing gauge, 6” with movable indicator
  • Pin Cushion / magnet (Also wrist pin cushion/magnet) 
  • Dritz Yellow headed quilters pins (500)
  • Hand sewing needles, SIZE 10 SHARPS
  • Loop turner
  • Point turner
  • Fine point disappearing ink marking pen
  • Toolbox for all of your supplies
  • 2” 3-ring binder
  • Package of 100 clear plastic sheet protectors for 3 ring binder 
  • Package of card stock

Fashion Fabric for garment projects: 

  • SOLID COLOR (other than black) Lightweight woven cotton (100%) 2½ yards; 4 spools of matching thread, Gutermann #100, 100% polyester.
  • Denim (at least 10oz)(100% cotton) 3 yards; 4 spools of matching thread, Gutermann #100, 100% polyester.
  • SOLID COLOR (other than black) medium weight woven cotton (100%) or Linen (100%) 3 yards; 1 spool of matching thread, Gutermann #100, 100% polyester.

*Please double check that your fabric does not contain spandex or Lycra!
