    This workshop covers the process of creating accessible documents in Microsoft Word. At successful course completion participants will be able to explain the importance of creating accessible documents and perform the steps necessary to create accessible Word documents:

    • Utilize styles and alt text, descriptive links and simple tables when creating new documents
    • Add accessibility features to legacy Word documents to make them accessible
    • Utilize the Office accessibility checker

    Evaluating and Repairing PDFs

    This workshop will focus on incorporating accessibility features into existing PDF documents.  It is always better to build as much accessibility into the source document (.docx, .pptx or .indd) as possible before converting to PDF.  In situations where you don’t have the source document, you can build accessibility into an existing PDF using Adobe Acrobat DC.  Techniques include:

    Adobe InDesign: Creating Accessible PDFs from Adobe InDesignLearn what features are required for a PDF to be considered accessible, and how to ensure that your Adobe InDesign document has these features built-in and mapped correctly for export to an accessible PDF. Note: It is expected that participants are already familiar with InDesign.

    Accessible DocumentsThis session is a basic introduction to document accessibility, covering accessibility topics such as recognizable text, good color contrast, descriptive links, and considerations for images and other graphical content.     Screen Reader Essential Training for Web Accessibility Testers
    This presentation will cover basics of using JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver screen readers during web accessibility testing.

    The WCAG 2.x A and AA Manual Evaluation form used by Syracuse University staff for testing web sites and web applications includes a number of checkpoints that are best tested using a screen reader.
