EndorsementLetter of Recommendation.

Please arrange for one recommendation letter from a Syracuse University faculty member to be submitted as part of your application. The letter must be focused on the research you propose. Include the person’s name in your proposal, and ask that person to send their letter as a PDF via their university email account to Dr. Matthew H Baxter at: mhbaxter@syr.edu no later than Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 11:59 pm ET.

In the online application you You will be asked to identify your letter writer in the online application and this person and they will receive an email requesting the letter upon submission of your application. It is your responsibility to make sure that the recommender provides us with a letter of recommendation for you on time (that is Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 11:59 pm ET).

We will be offering a Proposal Writing Workshop on Tuesday, February 9 at 3 pm ET in Eggers 341. The workshop will be hosted by Sue Wadley, Professor of Anthropology, Emerita. 

 

 


Our ExpectationsFurther Requirements:

Please note that (i) Upon , upon research completion, award recipients are required to submit a 1-2 page report outlining research activities and how the funds were used to Dr. Matthew H Baxter (mhbaxter@syr.edu). (ii) Award recipients are required to must: (i) send a brief biography and project abstract (one to two paragraphs in all) and a 100-250 words total) with a headshot photo to Dr. Matthew H. Baxter (mhbaxter@syr.edu) by May 15, 2023 for use on the Moynihan Institute’s website; (ii) submit a 300-500 word report outlining research activities and how the funds were used to mhbaxter@syr.edu;  (iii) (We expect that you will give a presentation on provide 3-5 photos representing the award’s use that would be suitable for distribution via the Moynihan Institute’s social media, and; (iv) be prepared to present your research or field experience upon invitation. (iv) Additional requirements  Additional award-specific requirements, including deadlines for the preceding ones, will be explained in the award notice.

The Bharati Memorial Award encourages and facilitates the study of South Asia among specifically among doctoral students at Maxwell.  We therefore strongly encourage its recipients to present their projects in relevant forums during the 2023-2024 academic year, such as at the Annual Conference on South Asia, University of Wisconsin-Madison or other appropriate professional society conferences. Bharati Memorial Award recipients should also make significant efforts to publish a paper based on their funded project. Any publications and presentations that result from this award should acknowledge the “Bharati Memorial Award/South Asia Center Summer Research Grant Program at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School.”
