Osamah F. Khalil
Chair, International Relations Program
Associate Professor, History
Professor Khalil is a historian of American foreign relations, who teaches classes on America in the World, the Global Cold War, and Middle East Media, among other topics. He is the author of America's Dream Palace: Middle East Expertise and the Rise of the National Security State (Harvard, 2016) and the editor of United States Relations with China and Iran: Toward the Asian Century (Bloomsbury, 2019). He previously served as the interim director of the Middle East Studies program. Professor Khalil teaches courses on the history of U.S. foreign relations, the Cold War, the history of International Relations, America and the Middle East, and the Vietnam War and popular culture. In 2018, he received the Chancellor’s Citation for Faculty Excellence and Scholarly Distinction.
Terrell A. Northrup
Minor Coordinator
Associate Teaching Professor - International Relations and Political Science
Professor Northrup is the coordinator and advisor for the International Relations-based minors in Global Political Economy and Global Security Studies and serves as the faculty advisor for the International Relations Club. She teaches International Relations and Political Science courses, including Introduction to International Relations (PSC 124), International Relations Honors (PSC 139), and Global Community (MAX 132). Her research interests focus on conflict resolution, the role of identity in conflict, and political and policy implications of the information age. She has been a member of the faculty at Syracuse University since 1989.
Amy Kennedy
Academic Advisor
Amy joined the International Relations Program as the academic advisor in 2012. She advises prospective majors, newly-declared majors, and sophomore and junior IR majors. She holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and a master’s degree in International Relations from the Maxwell School. Prior to her current role, Amy worked in the international development and food security sector in Washington, D.C. She has extensive study abroad experience including Semester at Sea as an undergraduate, and coursework in the U.K., France, and Uganda as a graduate student.
