Attackers may attempt to add email rules to your accounts account to forward and/or delete email most of the time without you even seeing or knowing about them.  

  • Microsoft office 365 check your rules by following the below steps:
    • Click the File tab
    • Click Manage Rules & Alerts
      • A box should put up and you will see all the rules you have in place
    • If you question any of those rules please include them by taking attaching a screenshot in the notification Step 4 below
  • Gmail
    • At the top right, click Settings Settings.
    • Click Settings.
    • Click Filters and Blocked Addresses.
    • If you question any of those rules please include them by taking attaching a screenshot in the notification Step 4 below

  • Use Syracuse University's Two-Factor Login service.  Navigate to NetID and click the "Opt-in to Two-factor" link.
  • Keep your device up to date and scan regularly
  • Use a strong password and a password manager.  For tips refer to the following link passwords and strong passwords/password managers 
  • Use different passwords for every account
  • Remember don't click links or download attachments without verifying they are safe first safe
