Begin by logging in to MySlice, then: 

  • If your leave, as proposed, did not include any external funding, follow the instructions found in Section 1. 
  • If your leave, as proposed, would or should include external funding, follow instructions found in Section 2.

Section 1: Research Leaves Proposed without External Funding


  1. Navigate to your pending approvals:
    1. Check to make sure that you are in the “Employee Home” section of MySlice.
    2. Select the “HR/Payroll Approvals” tile.
  2. Open the request you want to approve.:
    1. Select “Research/Admin LOA” from the menu on the left side of the page.
    2. Select your online leave form in the main window.
  3. Review the details of your request.:
    1. Select “view details.”
    2. Review the details of the request.
    3. Verify that you are listed at the bottom of the page as a pending approver.
    4. Review comments made by others, if desired.
    5. Do not approve the leave from this page. Return to the main approval page by selecting “pending approvals” in the top left corner of the window.
  4. If you do not have a contingent plan for alternate funding, and all details of your planned leave are accurate, select “approve” on this page.
    1. If the details of your planned leave are not accurate, select “pushback” and contact your dean’s office to update your plans.
  5. If you have a contingent plan for funding, please read the following carefully:
    1. If your planned leave is accurate, and you will not use the contingent funding option, enter the comment “leave as planned”, then select approve.
    2. If your planned leave is no longer accurate, but your contingent plan should be used instead, enter the comment, “contingent funding should be applied”, then approve.
    3. If both your planned leave and the contingent funding details are no longer accurate, select “pushback” and contact your dean’s office to update your plans. A new letter specifying new terms, if approved, will be provided.

...

    1. A new view will open.
    2. If there are attachments that you would like to review, you may need to enable pop-ups in your browser.
    3. To view comments made by others along the approval path, scroll down to the section, “Research/Admin LOA AppChain” and click on “view/hide comments.”
    4. If the terms of your leave are correct, and you wish to confirm without adding your own comments, select “approve” on this page.


To add optional comments or to request changes:


  1. To leave comments for others to view:
    1. Return to the main view by selecting “Pending Approvals” in the top left of your browser window.
    2. Reselect the “Research/Admin LOA” approval type on left and reselect the leave itself.
    3. Enter your comment in the comment box and select “Approve”. DO NOT select “Approve” if the terms of your leave are incorrect.
  2. To request changes:
    1. Return to the main view by selecting “Pending Approvals” in the top left of your browser window.
    2. Reselect the “Research/Admin LOA” approval type on left and reselect the leave itself.
    3. Enter a comment in the comment box, and select “Pushback.” Email the leave administrator in the Dean’s office to explain as needed.
