Detailed Description: Brandon Wong & Associates has negotiated, litigated, and mediated many complex family law cases over the years. This experience has provided Attorney Wong and his legal team with a new perspective on family and a greater understanding of the importance of community. Our San Antonio family law firm works tirelessly to ease the stress and concerns of our clients during emotional times, and we take pride in the difference we have been able to make in our clients’ lives over the years.

Requirements: to apply for the Difference Makers Scholarship, we ask students to submit contact information and proof of enrollment (examples: unofficial academic transcript, letter of acceptance/admittance, etc.) We also require that each student include a submission in the form of an essay (1,000 word or less) or video (5 minutes or less) answering the following prompt: 

  • What is the best memory you have made while making a difference within your community? What positive changes do you hope to make in your community in the near future? Why do you think this type of service is important? 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Applicants must be enrolled or accepted into an ABA accredited law school in the United States
  • Student is in their 2L or 3L year of Law school 
  • Student is a United States Citizen or permanent resident

Scholarship: The John Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2023-2024

Detailed Description: The Fund was established in 1980 by the Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth M. Alexander, a widow of John Alexander. The Fund was created to provide scholarships for Schenectady County residents. 

Requirements: The conditions for receipt of the scholarship are that the applicant reside in Schenectady County and be a full-time candidate for a Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Law Degree at an accredited New York Law School. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Proof of residency in Schenectady County (i.e. copy of driver's license) 
  • Letter from Syracuse Law confirming enrollment and good academic standing 

Deadline: December 1, 2023  

Amount: The income of the trust and the number of applicants determines the amount of the scholarship to be awarded to each recipient in a given year. As such, there is no set amount awarded for the scholarship from year to year. Last year, there were sixteen (16) recipients, each of whom received $2,375.

Scholarship:  Max J. Madrid Law Diversity Scholarship 

Detailed Description: To advance the goals of diversity and inclusion within the legal profession, Modrall Sperling has established the Max J. Madrid Law Diversity Scholarship. The scholarship provides tuition assistance towards an awardee's second or third year or law school in the amount of $10,000. The scholarship's name honors our former litigation partner and dear friend who tragically passed away in 2012. Max was a passionate advocate for the goals of diversity and inclusion that we espouse. 

Requirements: Application must be submitted by e-mail to Regina Torrez, reinat@modrall.com. For an application to be considered complete and reviewed, it must include all of the following: 

  • A personal statement of 500 to 700 words addressing eligibility and selection criteria;
  • A current resume showing applicant's education, job history, and community involvement;
  • A five- to ten-page writing sample, unedited by any third party, preferably on a law topic;
  • Transcripts (official or unofficial) from undergraduate and graduate or law programs; and
  • Two academic, professional and/or employment references, with full contact information. 

Basic Eligibility: 

  • Persons in their first or second year of law school may apply

Selection Criteria: 

  • Strong academic achievement in college, and if applicable, first year of law school;
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with employment and/or community service experience;
  • Demonstrated excellence in research and communication skills, including written and oral;
  • Compelling statement of the applicant's desire and the ability to overcome obstacles;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and demonstrated desire to practice law in the State of New Mexico; and
  • The student must be in good standing, and the chosen law school must be ABA-accredited. 

Deadline: January 26, 2024

Scholarship:  Community Leaders Scholarship 

Detailed Description: To help students who are seeking a career in public service and who have an interest in helping others in their communities, we have created the Spencer & Associates Community Leaders Scholarship. Through this program, we provide financial assistance to college students who have demonstrated an interest in serving their communities and who are pursuing careers in criminal justice, law enforcement, or other legal fields.

Requirements: our application must include documentation providing proof of enrollment in a program in a qualifying field of study, as well as evidence of family income. You must also include an essay of between 200 and 300 words answering the following prompt:

  • "How will this scholarship help you achieve your professional goals and allow you to give back to your local community?" 

Eligibility:

  • Low to medium income - An applicant must be from a household with an annual family income of $100,000 or less.
  • Community service - An applicant must have a demonstrated interest in service to their community, with a history of volunteer work or other forms of community involvement.
  • Field of study - A student must be enrolled in or planning to enter a program in the fields of criminal justice or law enforcement, or they must be enrolled in or planning to attend law school.
  • Age - A person must be at least 17 years old on the date they submit their application.
  • Legal status in the United States - An applicant must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.

Selection Criteria: 

  • Does the applicant meet all eligibility requirements?
  • Is the applicant's essay well-written and well-organized?
  • Does the applicant demonstrate a desire to improve their community?

Scholarship:  Out-of-State Student Scholarship 

Detailed Description: In today's world, college students do not have it easy. In addition to the skyrocketing costs of college tuition, the amounts students will need to pay for expenses such as housing and transportation have also increased significantly. Many students struggle to cover these costs and ensure that they can receive the proper education and pursue their career goals. Students who attend college in states or regions of the country that are far away from their families will often face additional challenges and increased expenses, and they may be concerned that they will be unprepared to address these concerns.

At Fawell & Fawell, we understand the issues that affect students who travel to other states to attend college, and we have created a scholarship program to provide assistance for these students. Through the Fawell & Fawell Out-of-State Student Scholarship, we award $1,000 each semester to a qualified student who will be pursuing educational opportunities in a location outside of the state where they attended high school or where their parents currently live. Scholarship winners can use this money to pay for tuition, housing, other educational costs, or transportation-related expenses.

Requirements:  Students can apply for the scholarship by submitting the form. An applicant must provide identifying information showing that they are an out-of-state student, as well as proof of enrollment and documentation of their GPA. Documents that can be submitted to show that the requirements have been met include an acceptance letter and an academic transcript.

Applicants must also submit an essay of at least 200 to 300 words that answers the following prompt: 

  • "What challenges and difficulties have affected you as an out-of-state student? Have you struggled with leaving your family and settling into an unfamiliar environment? How do you plan to overcome these challenges and achieve success in your academic efforts?" 

Eligibility:

  • Be enrolled in or have been accepted to a college or university that is located in a state where they did not attend high school or a state other than where their parents currently live.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher as of the most recent academic semester they have completed.
  • Be above the age of 17.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.

Selection Criteria: We closely review every application submitted to ensure that applicants have met all requirements. We look at: 

  • Whether the student meets the criteria to qualify for the scholarship
  • Their originality and creativity when answering the questions
  • How well the essay is written and organized

Deadline: February 19, 2024

Our founding attorney, Michelle Behan, is a U.S. Navy Veteran, and she has been a passionate advocate for Veterans throughout her legal career, including by providing criminal defense counsel for Veterans in need and serving on a regional committee for Veterans’ issues in Arizona under Senator Jeff Flake.

We are offering The Behan Law Group Military Veteran Scholarship to support Veterans and their children in the pursuit of higher education. This scholarship in the amount of $1,000 can be used for tuition and other educational expenses at a college or university of your choice.

Scholarship: "What We Can Do to Prevent People From Driving Intoxicated in Our Communities?" Scholarship 

Detailed Description:  Beginning in 2023, DWI Tom intends to offer a $2,500 “What We Can Do to Prevent People From Driving Intoxicated in Our Communities?” Scholarship to rising and current college students. Students can submit essays between 500 and 1,000 words to the firm’s scholarship selection committee for a chance to win the firm’s financial support.

DWI Tom hopes that this scholarship encourages incoming and current college students to think critically about the dangers of drinking and driving. The firm intends to judge incoming scholarship essays on a student’s creativity and research as well as their suggestions’ actionability.

Requirements: DWI Tom wants rising and current college students to answer the question, “What can we do to prevent people from driving intoxicated in our communities?” The firm requests that students’ finished essays fall between 500 and 1,000 words.

The award recipient will be announced by Monday, February 5th, 2024.Blossom Law provides valuable and compassionate legal services to families who are often juggling bills and struggling with debt. Charlotte bankruptcy attorney Rashad Blossom personally understands the integral role that a family can play in times of hardship, and he appreciates the strong foundation that family members can provide, especially when they provide care for their loved ones.

In honor of his mother, Bobbie Blossom, who was a caregiver for his father, Rashad established The Blossom Law Caregiver Scholarship in 2022 to offer financial relief to students who have a parent who has been the primary caregiver for a loved one or who have served as caregivers themselves. Twice a year, Blossom Law offers college students the opportunity to receive $1,000 through the Blossom Law Caregiver Scholarship. The award may be used to supplement the costs of tuition, room and board, and other educational expenses.

Requirements:  The Blossom Law Caregiver Scholarship requires each applicant to submit an original essay (approximately 500-1000 words) answering the provided prompt. Along with the essay, we also request that you submit contact information, proof of enrollment, and documentation of your most recently achieved GPA. Please write an essay on the following prompt:

  • "Being a loved one's caregiver is an incredible act of service, and it is often a thankless job. If you have a parent who has provided care for a loved one, or if you have been a caregiver yourself, how has this experience affected your priorities or long-term goals? How will this new perspective prepare you for the future? 

Eligibility:

  • You are at least 18 years of age
  • You are enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university
  • You are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • You earned a 3.0 grade point average or higher in your most recently completed semester

Selection Criteria: Each application with be reviewed by our scholarship team. Submissions will be evaluated using these standards:

  • The student has provided all requested documentation
  • The student meets all eligibility requirements
  • The submitted essay is creative, organized, and features high-quality writing

Attorney Dominick Marsala understands how difficult it can be to pursue personal interests outside of school and work, and he believes it is incredibly valuable to maintain such hobbies throughout your life, despite challenging transitions and busy schedules. Through the Marsala Law Group Lifelong Hobby Scholarship, our firm works to provide students with financial assistance to help them pursue their goals and passions

Requirements:  To be considered for the Marsala Law Group Lifelong Hobby Scholarship, students must submit a video of 3 minutes or less answering the following prompt:

  • "Making time for hobbies can greatly benefit a person and ensure that they are focused on what is important to them. What would you consider to be your lifelong hobby? How have you maintained this hobby throughout your life, and how do you plan to continue to make time for it while also pursuing a higher education, working, and/or focusing on other priorities? How has this hobby helped you to excel in other areas of your life?" 

Additionally, applications must include the student's contact information, proof of enrollment, and proof of GPA.

  • Student has a minimum grade point average of 3.0

Requirements:  To support those who are determined to learn from their mistakes, we are excited to announce the 2023 Back and Better Scholarship. Through the Back and Better Scholarship, students are encouraged to answer the following prompt for the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship: In 750-1,000 words, tell us about a time you received a second chance –  how did you respond to this opportunity, and what valuable lesson did you learn? 

  • The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience, both professional and academic.
  • The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students must also submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.

Eligibility:

  • The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, vocational student, college student, or graduate student who is a legal resident of the United States residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia and who is enrolled in a vocational program or two to five-year post-secondary institution for the upcoming 2023 school year. 
  • Employees of Groth & Associates, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling, and spouse), and persons living in the same households of such individuals (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate in the competition. 
  • Candidates for this scholarship should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.

Deadline: February 28, 2024

Scholarship: The Devadoss Law Firm Civil Rights Scholarship 

Detailed Description: Attorney Bobby Devadoss and the team at The Devadoss Law Firm, P.L.L.C. offer legal representation to clients facing complex and unique federal labor and employment law cases. The Devadoss Law Firm believes in standing up for what is right, and we will fight vigorously to defend our clients’ constitutional and civil rights.

This upcoming semester, the Dallas law firm is offering The Devadoss Law Firm Civil Rights Scholarship. Our award is worth $1000 and is available to current and aspiring law school students who appreciate the importance of civil rights in the workforce.

We are proud to provide future lawyers the opportunity to make their education more affordable and to inspire them to explore civil rights issues within the millennial workforce.

Requirements:   Each applicant must submit the required materials in order to have their application reviewed by our scholarship team. All students are asked to provide proof of enrollment and their contact information. Additionally, applications must include a submission in the format of a video (approximately 5 minutes or less) or an essay (1000 words or less) discussing the following questions:

Q1: "What are the most important civil rights issues that affect millennial workers?" 

Q2: "Do millennials need to be better informed about how they can protect their rights in the workplace?" 

Q3: "How can workers make sure they understand their rights and the ways they can protect themselves?" 

Eligibility:

  • Must be a current or aspiring law student
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited college or university within the United States as an undergraduate or graduate student
  • Must be at least 17 years of age

Selection Criteria: Our scholarship team spends substantial amounts of time and effort reviewing each application. While reviewing each application, we keep the following criteria in mind:

  • Does the video or essay submission answer each question thoroughly and clearly?
  • Is the video or essay submission creative, thoughtful, and well organized?
  • Does the student meet all application requirements?

titleStriving Solo Parent Scholarship - March 14

Scholarship:  Striving Solo Parent Scholarship  

Detailed Description: Attorney Bacalis often provides legal services to single parents, and he has come to appreciate the hard work and sacrifice that goes into raising children on your own. Since Fall 2022, Daniel R. Bacalis, P.C. has offered a scholarship of $1,000 each semester to a single parent who is returning to school to pursue a college degree. We hope that the Striving Solo Parent Scholarship allows single parents easier access to higher education. 

Requirements:  Every application must include the following information: applicant’s contact information, unofficial academic transcript, proof of enrollment, and consent to publish the submitted essay. To apply to our Striving Solo Parent Scholarship, please submit an essay of no more than 1,500 words responding to ONE of the following prompts:

  • "As a single parent, what do you expect to be the biggest benefits of pursuing a higher education at this time in your life? Before beginning your academic journey, what risks did you consider, and what do you think will be your most daunting challenges? How do you plan to address and overcome those factors?"

OR 

  • "How has your experience as a single parent inspired you to pursue a higher education? What do you hope to teach your child(ren) as you go through this experience? How will obtaining further education benefit you and your family?"

Eligibility: The Daniel R. Bacalis Striving Solo Parent Scholarship was created with the intent to offer financial relief to single parents pursuing a higher education. To be eligible for our award, you must be a single parent, and you must also meet the following criteria: 

  • You will be enrolled in an accredited university or college within the United States for the Spring 2024 semester.
  • You are a permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
  • You achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in your most recently completed academic semester. 

Selection Criteria: Each application will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Applicant provided all necessary materials
  • Applicant's essay is written professionally and thoughtfully 
  • Applicant's essay demonstrates creativity and originality

Detailed Description: To advance the goals of diversity and inclusion within the legal profession, Modrall Sperling has established the Max J. Madrid Law Diversity Scholarship. The scholarship provides tuition assistance towards an awardee's second or third year or law school in the amount of $10,000. The scholarship's name honors our former litigation partner and dear friend who tragically passed away in 2012. Max was a passionate advocate for the goals of diversity and inclusion that we espouse. 

Requirements: Application must be submitted by e-mail to Regina Torrez, reinat@modrall.com. For an application to be considered complete and reviewed, it must include all of the following: 

  • A personal statement of 500 to 700 words addressing eligibility and selection criteria;
  • A current resume showing applicant's education, job history, and community involvement;
  • A five- to ten-page writing sample, unedited by any third party, preferably on a law topic;
  • Transcripts (official or unofficial) from undergraduate and graduate or law programs; and
  • Two academic, professional and/or employment references, with full contact information. 

Basic Eligibility: 

  • Persons in their first or second year of law school may apply

Selection Criteria: 

  • Strong academic achievement in college, and if applicable, first year of law school;
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with employment and/or community service experience;
  • Demonstrated excellence in research and communication skills, including written and oral;
  • Compelling statement of the applicant's desire and the ability to overcome obstacles;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and demonstrated desire to practice law in the State of New Mexico; and
  • The student must be in good standing, and the chosen law school must be ABA-accredited. 

Deadline: January 26, 2024

Amount: $102024 Public Spirit Scholarship 

Detailed Description: At Addair Law, we are passionate about getting involved and supporting community members. We have a strong commitment to serving others and have seen how performing civic duties improves the lives of individuals and the greater community. People are generally inspired to give back to their community for many different reasons and would like to hear from students about what motivates them to give back or be active citizens. That is why we are proud to bring back our Public Spirit Scholarship.

We want to hear from students interested in public welfare and improving their community for this scholarship. We ask applicants to discuss their involvement in their community, any organizations they are involved in, and the academic value they have learned and/or gained from giving back to others. Some examples of civic involvement include but are not limited to voting, volunteering at a local or nonprofit organization, coaching for a community sports league, tutoring, or fundraising for a charity. 

Requirements:  The candidate must submit a 750 – 1000 word essay response to the prompt: Students should discuss their involvement in their community, any organizations they are involved in, and what they have learned and gained from giving back to others. 

  • The candidate must submit a resumé listing their professional and academic experience.
  • The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students must also submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.

Eligibility:

  • The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, college student, or graduate student residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia enrolled in a two to five-year post-secondary institution for the 2024 school year.
  • Candidates for this scholarship should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.

Deadline: March 31, 2024
