Blackboard Ultra Course View Orientation

Description

During Beginning in Fall 2022 Online Learning Services (OLS) will provide a training opportunity for selected faculty to explore Blackboard Ultra Course View (UCV). This will come in the form of an introduction and three one-week modules that combine synchronous and asynchronous content.

Each module will have two synchronous sessions. It will start with a kick-off session orienting faculty to the module content and overviewing the topics for the week. It will close with a session for participants to share the items they created throughout the week, reflect on their learning together, provide feedback, and set goals for proceeding with UCV course creation.

Throughout the week, faculty will work asynchronously on creating various components of an ultra course using documentation, tutorial videos, and prompts provided by OLS. Each module will contain a discussion board; participants will be encouraged to use it along with the other communication tools in UCV courses to interact with the instructor and other participants for support throughout the week.

Module content will be created and presented in a Blackboard ultra course where participants are enrolled with the role of “student” so that they can get a sense of the learner experience.

Applications are due September 9th, 2022. All registrants will have access to their own UCV course sandbox to explore and to the content in an introduction module which they should review before attending their first session.

Schedule

On September 7th, OLS will release an introduction module for admitted participants for them to view asynchronous introductory materials.

Participants should expect to attend a series of 60 minute meetings each week for four consecutive weeks. These meetings will be used as a kick-off for the content for the week to come and a wrap-up with a show-and-tell of ultra course content created throughout the previous week. The dates for these live meetings are:

  • September 7th: Module 1 Kick-off
  • September 14th: Module 1 Wrap-up and Module 2 Kick-off

  • September 21st: Module 2 Wrap-up and Module 2 Kick-off
  • September 28th: Module 3 Wrap-up

asynchronous, video-based orientation course to introduce the new course view. The course includes recommend tasks to complete in a sandbox ultra course and access to a weekly "office-hours" style meeting where enrollees can ask questions of OLS staff. Participants are enrolled in a course that uses ultra view with the role of "student" to get a sense of the learning experience and complete exercises in an ultra view course where they have the role of instructor to test ultra view and experiment with its settting.
