1:00 - 2:00 PM Workshop: Syllabus-Based Course Creation & Redesign in Ultra Course View

This newly-designed workshop is for Syracuse University instructors to use their syllabus to create a Blackboard ultra course from the ground up. In part one instructors will focus on updating their course structure to take advantage of ultra’s navigation. Instructors will create new Blackboard documents and copy items from their prior courses. The optional second part of the workshop will center on gradebook setup and assessment settings. The workshop is a “hands-on” opportunity to work with OLS staff as they guide participants through the process of re-designing for ultra.

This is a virtual training that will meet on Zoom with a limited number of seats available in each session.

Short Course: Getting Started in Ultra Essentials Course View

Instructors who want a comprehensive experience of the Ultra course view can join this online, asynchronous orientation course, delivered through Ultra itself. The course contains a set of general training modules designed to cover the basic features of Blackboard Ultra which will be useful to (nearly) all instructors, and a second set of optional, advanced modules on more specialized topics.

Instructors can join a cohort for either a 1 or 2 week session, depending on whether they plan to complete just the basic training or engage with the advanced content. During the session, the course will be actively monitored by an expert facilitator from Online Learning Services who will answer questions, provide individual suggestions and feedback, and host virtual office hours. Participants can work through the training modules on their own schedule, with optional opportunities to interact with the facilitator and other members of their cohort through Blackboard discussions and virtual office hours. At the conclusion of a session, the course will no longer be monitored by Online Learning Services staff, but participants will retain access to the training materials in Blackboard indefinitely

This 1-week, asynchronous training course is designed for instructors who want to transition to Ultra in a collaborative, guided working environment. Instructors can sign up in cohorts of 10-15 to be enrolled in a training course delivered through Blackboard Ultra itself. Each cohort will be assigned a facilitator from the OLS team who will actively monitor the online course, participate in Blackboard discussions, answer questions, and make individualized suggestions based on instructional needs and goals.

Each session will begin with a live, 1-hour Zoom workshop. Participants will then will have a week to work through the Blackboard training modules on their own time, interacting with colleagues and the course facilitator through Blackboard discussions and messages if they choose. Near the end of the week, there will be another live Zoom Q&A session with the facilitator. After the end of the week, OLS staff will no longer be actively monitoring the Blackboard training course, but instructors will retain access to the course training materials for reference and review.
