Overview

An EDA (Enhanced Desktop Access) account is a local (non-domain) administrative account intended for users who require access to perform administrative tasks.

Please note that you cannot log in to your computer using this account. It is meant to be used with the Windows UAC (User Account Control) prompt as described below.

 

Installing Software Using EDA

 

  1. There are two methods for running an executable on your workstation (choose one):
  2. Right-click the executable, and click Run As Administrator.

  3. Place the executable in in C:\Apps-SU (if this folder does not exist, you can create it) and run it.

  4. Right-click the executable, and click Run As Administrator.

  5. A UAC Login prompt will appear.  For the username, enter: .\l-<netid> (ex. .\lL-smcheathtsphung).  For the password, enter the one that was provided to you.
    The ".\" in front of the username tells the workstation to use the local domain rather than Active Directory.

  6. Click Yes.
