Government Funding
The School of Architecture’s research efforts are supported by the Associate Dean for Research (ADR). For questions about grant requirements, submissions, and deadlines please contact Eliana Abu-Hamdi, Associate Dean for Research at eabuhamd@syr.edu.
The ADR’s administrative duties extend to the following:
- Provide feedback on grant applications, grant narratives, and budget rationales.
- Supports faculty across the professional lifespan and across all disciplines and fields of study.
- Foster a collaborative scholarly community by providing opportunities for ongoing professional development in the form of workshops, writing support and one-on-one meetings.
- Develop research infrastructure and offers strategic faculty services to foster research capacity and success (develop programming, structures, and supports; evaluate opportunities), including for collaborative, interdisciplinary research inclusive of research opportunities.
- Oversee research-related grant competitions for faculty and students.
- Participates in School and university committees and initiatives related to research and creative work.
- Works collaboratively with other Associate Dean’s for Research, the Office of Research, Corporate Foundations and Relations, Office of Government and Community Relations, and Office of Sponsored Programs to support SOA faculty research and creative work.
- Develop, administer, and monitor the College's research goal to elevate the prominence and reach of research activities.
- Engage with the administration in the oversight and establishment of policies for funding and assessment of existing and future grant administration policies and protocols.
- Serve as the college liaison to university offices, including the Vice President of Research.
- Work with College Advancement and External Relations, the Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE), and the Center of Excellence to enhance college research through gifts, foundation awards and corporate partnerships.
Grant Procedures:
- Grant opportunities will be posted to this page, circulated to the faculty listserv when appropriate, and sent directly to faculty if an opportunity meets their specific interests. Scholarly conferences are also provided as reference.
- Faculty should reference this grant submission flowchart for procedures and protocols. All questions regarding process can be directed to the ADR.
- The ADR can review all grant submissions at any stage in the process, from conceptualize, draft, revision, to final submission.
- Please contact ADR regarding university policies such as PI registration, FCOI training, IP forms, IRR forms and IRB certification. Most university requirements must be met prior to grant submission.
